Yes definitely get a quality cell as your current draw can go as high as 3A during the battery cycle and crapfire batteries just won't cut it. The AW's would be my first choice and Sanyo's if on a budget.

A single flexdrive set to 900mA would not need to be heatsinked but I have noticed the more you boost the hotter they get and I do recommend that you heatsink dual flexdrives set to 900mA each. This was one of my earlier builds but I am pretty sure I would have sinked the drivers at the very least back to back.:thinking:

As for the heatsink unfortunately there is none currently but thats not a problem with me. How should I go about making/getting a heatsink this dual flex setup? :beer:

Well, now that we know it's the battery causing the issue, you do not need to make the heatsinks for the drivers. However, if you want to, it'll be a nice upgrade if you want to prolong the duty cycle of the laser.

What exactly is the cell you are using now? It looks alike those red cells I am using, which were pulled from laptop batteries.

That is along the same line I suggested. If he was happy with the units performance before the battery issue why fix what is not broken and any time you disassemble something that is working there is a chance that it may not work when you get it back together.:banghead:

He is using a Sanyo 2600mAh battery which I assume it may have been allowed to drain to low damaging it. They are great cells but since they are unprotected you have to be careful as they will not have a low voltage cutoff.

The wait continues... I ordered 4 of the 18650's so I have backups. Plus when it will be nice not to have to get more 18650's for future builds :beer:
