I FINALLY BUILT MY LASER BUT....

sorry guys, havent been on lately thanks for the replies

first off thanks bug i will try your method

@gotawake424
i got the switch to work =], i attached both negative terminals from the battery and the driver to the pins of the switch

then i attached the positive part of the battery to the driver

in result, when i press the button, it works =]

@rog8811
thanks for the heads up

what do you suggest i do to get 7.2V then?

@pseudolobster
i will keep a heads up when doing so, THANKS =]

btw you guys have any tips on soldering to pins? my hands are very shaky and i have tough time working with small components

i can't seem to get the pins to stick and such to the wires

kk i tried the method of blowing it away but it seems like i just have made it worst

i dont wanna over heat the diode cause i wasted ALOT of dvd drive diodes already

i will just wait for the solder removers i ordered (copper w.e stuff)

or untill further instructions from you guys =]

thanks

Looking at the picture of your drive board it looks like you have very dry joints (they look grey and misshapen rather than shiney and flowing) this suggests lack of flux. This may be due to having remade connections without adding any fresh solder, the flux will burn away with repeated reheating.

I suggest that to help remove the solder from the pins of the ld you should add some flux when you heat it up to use the solder wick. The wick won't work if the solder does not flow, the solder will not flow if all the flux is gone.

Regards rog8811

I don't use that particular type but it would work fine.

Regards rog8811

lol alright thanks

i dont think i can get flux right now

is it possible to remove the solder with just the copper braids which i ordered

the solder is starting to get flatter, so im not touching it anymore

Youi should be able to get flux from any good hardware/plumbing suppliers local to you, as I said previously the wick will only work if the solder is flowing, the solder will not flow without flux.

oh ok, would it be better to add more solder first?

my solder is about to be flat and make like a silver layer on my diode

You had better be sure it is Rosin Flux and not Acid Flux used for sheet metal
and plumbing... 8-)

waiting for solder remover to come still =[

im still having troubles and giving me headaches looking at those tiny pins for the diode, so hard to solder

Don't Pretend to be an expert on soldering, i have been soldering since i was 9 (was that bragging?) Anyway, what kind of iron are you using? What gauge solder are you using?

i have no idea actually, ill take some pictures of the solder thing im using, i'd say my tip is pointy but its not too thick or too thin

and the solder im using, NO IDEA

and since when did i brag about soldering =[ i tried to debrag about my soldering skills

you posted earlier that you were using a specific laser module from DX

it is referred to on the DX website as:
Red Laser Module - Focusable Dot (3.5V~4.5V 16mm 5mW)

the title of the DX ad says it is a 5mw output diode

I dont think you can alter it or drive it with a electrical source that will cause the laser to burn anything other than maybe an eyeball

maybe i missed something

The first thing you do is knock out the 5mw LD/driver and bin it. Now press in a proper LD...

=] anyways... im still waiting for some solder remover

btw, will adding more solder count as flux

im kinda broke atm like literally 0 dollars

if i get a chance to go to home depot or something ill pick up some flux but just j/w
