i set my laser to 240ma [is that too much?]

it doesn't have any heat what so ever

it can't focus to that perfect dot i want

could it be the lens or something

i will get some pics in a bit

btw the lens do look a bit beat up and deformed

You should be able to burn dark colored objects. If the spot won't focus try another lens.

That is the module I use a lot. I'm frugal :D
If the diode isn't pressed in all the way or crooked, it won't focus very well.

If by "heat" you mean it won't burn you, that's because your red laser will most likely not be able to burn your skin, your flesh distributes the red too much for it to burn you.

alright thanks guys

so basically i added a switch

for some reason it works opposite, when i click the button, then it loses the power

and secondly, i went and opened my module to check if i fully press the diode in, the wire soldered to it snapped off

i try to resolder but didnt work out

instead the solder stuck to the positive and the negative pins of the diode

i have no solder copper braids what so ever [ gg ]

ive dont that a couple times...

i heat up the solder til it melts.. then take the soldering iron off really quick... then take a compressed air can n blast the melted solder off... might take a couple trys so be careful of the pins

You have the wrong kind of switch. You need a "spst Normally open switch"
what you have is a "spst Normally closed switch"

Normally open means that when the button is not pressed down there is no connection like this ./ .
Normally closed means that when the button is not pressed there is a connection like this .--.

powered from 4 AA batteries

If those are rechargable AA,s there is every chance that they are 1.2v not 1.5v, we have had this conversation before on another thread..... but I will try again.

The ideal voltage is 7.2V, if the batteries are 1.5v each that = only 6v
If the batteries are 1.2v each that = 4.8v

Either way not enough power, you will not get it to burn until you give it enough volts.....

This is a good trick, I've used it a few times, though be careful, it throws hot solder everywhere which can sting if it hits your skin. Might want to wear eye protection, too, since molten lead in the eyes is never a good thing. Also, you'll want to look very closely at the diode to make sure any of those molten solder bits didn't resolidify in a way that they short things out... Pay close attention to the base of the pins and be sure you haven't accidentally bridge the + pin to the case.

...Or, if you have some flux, just add some and hit the bridge with a clean iron, should suck all the solder to the iron tip and away from the pins.
