How about an LPF store?

I've noticed that many laser forums have their own stores, so I thought it would be cool if LPF got one of its own as well.

There are many benefits of having our own store:

1. Group buys can be organized more easily.
2. LPF users could sell their things through the store and Avery could perhaps get a small commission. I think sellers of DIY lasers (such as IgorT and jayrob) may be interested in something like this.
3. LPF could get what they want without having to order from many different companies.
4. LPF users could secure their purchases with the store acting as a "middleman."
5. An online store could drive more traffic towards LPF.

Things that could be sold include:

1. Diodes, sleds and DIY kits.
2. Laser accessories (such as optics safety labels)
3. DIY lasers
4. Lasers and parts acquired through group buys
5. A "bargain" area where users could sell their lasers
6. LPF merchandise (such as T-shirts)

What do you all think?

Doesn't sound too bad :D.

A lpf website just for people trying to sell there lasers? ;D (maybe lasersale.com? or somthing like that)

A lpf website just for the lpf shirts ECT. (Lpfshirts.com? I dunno about that one)

A lpf website just for group buys? (lpfGP.com?)
 
I think that their are enought store out there allready.

They all a fast, helpful and most are very courteous. :P

P.S. Hope someone dosen't flame yor thread just for the idea. :P
 
im sure avery has thought of this. alot of the time he has things to do in real life and that would be almost like taking on another full time job. just from the sled sales i do ive noticed it takes up a lot of time especially if you ship orders on a constant basis. consider time to package items, time to print labels or go to the p.o., time to reorder supplies.... if hes as busy as i think he is then he wont have time to do it. avery does make a little money off the forum as it is and i think its very nice that he lets members advertise their stores a little(as long as we dont spam the forum). besides we get stuff cheaper now. i mean come on where would he buy drivers and such from? answer: probably other members. he doesnt have the time to construct a driver design or hunt down suppliers so i dont think it will happen anytime soon.
 
this is a cool idea but i would need some help setting it up. a few people contacted me about it before. it is definitely possible this will be set up in the future.

maybe we could use laserholic.com for it=)

Ok here are my thoughts about this.

I think it's a great idea, it would help avery with the forum's bandwidth usage.
The thing is that it WILL end up as another "Buy/Sell/Trade" section, just a bit more organized.

As drew said, it will consume c0ld's time, but I think it could be great for members that have big, massive sales, like the kryton, igorT's lenses, etc.

For little sales such as one DIY bluray it would not make any sense at all.
 
How would this operate - would it be a second forum, or a shopping-cart interface like ZenCart? If so then it's going to be a lot of trouble to maintain and moderate it, and security'd have to be very tight, or we'd all rely entirely on c0ld managing it, which could make it a slow process. If anyone's interested, I could spend a bit of time writing a Group Buy management system in PHP? It wouldn't be a polished system by any stretch though, and would still take a lot of work to maintain...

Another option is allowing each member to have a sub-domain of a sale site, each one with a clean ZenCart install, which they have control over, and can freely link to. This could be done on a request-only basis based on rep or post count?
 
Or how about this? We set up a site like normal, add merchandise (shirts and thongs [:D]) ONLY. Then we have everyone who wants to be listed on there pay a price for each item listed?
 
Personally i think its a good idea and if he needs some help setting it up im sure we have some web designers around here who wouldnt mind "donating" some work time into making a really nice shop.
 
If this were to happen I think a separate forum would be good enough. You could have separate categories for different types of things you are selling. I think this is like how CPFmarketplace is run.
 
I still think it should be linked with LPF. It will attract new members and will be easier to locate instead of having to type in another URL.
 
I think an eBay-esque setup would work well. You create an account, post your item via "Buy-It-Now" or auction, and then your done. You could also sell Group Buy tickets, and many other things.
