Maybe im just doing something wrong but I find the search function practically worthless in some cases.

I find it hard to believe there is no thread with LPC-815 in it. I also tried LOC with no results. I can even go to the red laser subforum and literally copy the text LPC-815 from the title of one of the first threads in the subforum and then paste it in the search which returns no results. :can:

Are you using the " and " in your searches? Because I've never used them and though the search can be a bit annoying, it usually works. Hope this helps.

No it added those on its own after it returned nothing.

You're doing it wrong. ;)

Search terms must be 4 letters long, so try searching for "LPC* 815*" and you'll have better luck.

I just use Google advanced search. I enter the terms I want to use and search within "http: //laserpointerforums.com/"

That search bar works a lot better, it pretty much does exactly what RA_Pierce described.

so the - is messing it up?

No, it's filtering it out. You're searching for LPC 815, and the search function filters out all words less than 4 letters. So you're searching for nothing. ;)

If you add the * wildcard on the end, it's 4 letters and the forum software will search for it.

...the search function filters out all words less than 4 letters.
Then that makes the search function worth crap.
^^^HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK ***KS.
I never noticed it, I always use the google-search with really good results.

Not really; it saves a lot of CPU by doing that. If you allow short words (1-2 letters), the server's got to return way more matches. Technically the minimum word length is 3 (I tried to search for "a***" and it filtered it, saying that), but I think it filters out search terms less than four letters long.

vBulletin doesn't have Google's programmers writing the search algorithms, nor do they assume that vBulletin users will have servers comparable to Google's many datacenters full of racks of servers. Perhaps your energy would be better spent using Google instead of insulting the vBulletin programmers who I suspect are way more experienced in search optimization than you. :tired:

Oh dang, I just realized what a stupid thing I said there...
Somehow I misread, and thought words LONGER than 4 characters are getting filtered.:banghead:
THAT would be stupid indeed.....

I totally take back what I said, it was said under twisted assumptions. :yabbem:
vBulletin's search is fine the way it is.

I appreciate you calling me on my bullshyte.

Whoa, whoa...
Dude, maybe you should re-edit your posts and remove the profanities.
That is totally unnecessary.

I just wish I could use a "Google Advanced Search" kind of thing in Firefox. Firefox's Superbar or whatever they call it is completely worthless, and I REALLY miss IE's old (IE7 and older) simple searching method that would simply sort things by the title directly. I'd tag an identifying string (like "LASER - ") to the beginning of my bookmark and it'd make it so easy to find by just typing that. Now I get every damn result that contains that "tag" in its URL and title no matter how obscure. What a shitty system Firefox has.

a tip for everyone
you don't need 'google advanced search'.
just enter Google
and type in: site:laserpointerforums.com <search terms>

eg site:laserpointerforums.com lpc-815
