Hello to all LPF members,

I am new to this forum. Recently, a good friend and holography colleague of mine proudly showed off his new >1W 445nm handheld laser. And now I WANT ONE!

In fact, I have decided that I wish to start a small collection of handheld lasers for myself.;)

I am used to high power lasers as I have been involved with display holography for the past 18 years. During this time I have ran a gallery and a pulsed holography studio and acquired a rather large collection of high quality display holograms produced both by my company and many other early artists in the field. I have a very large collection of holograms; sizes ranging from 2x2" to 16x24" in size. DCG, Silver-halide, and Photopolymers. Reflection, Rainbow Transmission, and Laser Transmission holos. Way too much to list.

I was wondering if there are any laser pointer collectors out there that would like to barter handheld lasers for display holograms?

To start, I am interested in the following types of handheld lasers:
1. >1W 445nm HHL with multi-power modes & adjustable focus.
2. ~250-500mw 532nm HHL with same.
3. ~150-300mw 632,650nm HHL with same.
4. ~100mw 405nm HHL.
5. 1-3W 808nm HHL.

I am not interested in parts, just well engineered turnkey portable lasers with all accessories and safety features.

So how about it??? Anyone here on this forum interested in starting or adding to their hologram collection? Interested parties may PM me via this forum. I look forward to meeting new LPF members and trading collections.

Wishing you a coherent day,
Rob Taylor

Re: Holograms for barter

Welcome to LPF, it's great to have you here. I'v always wanted to make some holographs. Right now I lack the space for a table to work on though.....some day.

I would be more than happy to do a trade if I had what you were looking for in a portable but alas I don't.
There are those here that do have what your looking for and quite a bit better built that you might find from a Chinese seller.

Good luck with your trade and hopefully we can keep you here to post some of your Holographic wisdom!

EDIT: Just checked your web site and I'd love to get out there some time. Looks like your facility is located in a very nice area! Perhaps some day....

I see two problems;
1. Holograms do not put food on the table or pay bills (as they are).
2. You will have a difficult time trying to find an enthusiast-built high-powered portable laser with any of the safety features required by the FDA (aperture shutter, safety key, emmission delay, on-LED, etc.).

I suggest trading the holograms for money and trading that money for lasers.

You can find the lasers you are looking for at reasonable prices by ordering directly from China. Several manufacturers and distributors in China have FDA-comliant lasers for a great price. You could also find a US based manufacturer, but they would be 3 to 5 times the price for a laser with the same specs.

By the way; welcome to the forum

Re: Holograms for barter

for the 250- 500mw 532nm get one form jetlasers. Jetlasers make very high quality laser w/ FDA features such as keylock, aperture shutter, etc.
same with 445nm. they can come in different hosts, if you dont want a repeated host.
you'd probably have a hard time to find a laser that they dont have :p
for the 1-3 808, go to www.rayfoss.com

Re: Holograms for barter

Thanks for all the great advice guys. I am still learning the community here. Mr. Ash must be right, as I have received no offers to date. I just thought that there would be some members here who might be interested in HOLOGRAMS also.;)

With that said, I will extend my offer to quality homebuilds without safety features and provide a link to just a few of the great 12x16" color holograms from the great Mr. Larry Lieberman I have to offer! I am willing to make some great deals. These art holograms are sure to appreciate in value.

Multi-color reflection holograms.

Thanks for looking. Lets make a deal!:D

Re: Holograms for barter

This is right up my alley - I would love a 12x16 color hologram.

I also know nothing about the art, nor what holograms are worth, but I'm certainly open to an exchange. Can you show me some of the 12x16 options?

I have a number of 1W (or higher) 445nm Handhelds on hand, with adjustable focus, but without multi-power modes. I can make almost anything (save for 532), but I don't have a ton of time to create something custom right now. But maybe there'll be a hologram I like, and a laser you're interested in amongst the 445s I have on hand :)

Success! A new potential hologram collector to lure into the holography web!:eg:

rhd, I will send you a PM with my phone number so that we can discuss arrangements. I am sure I will have a hologram (or more) you will be interested in.

Thanks for the post. When we complete our barter, we can both post our experiences for the forum. I would like to infuse a few more members with the "holography bug".:)

Re: Holograms for barter

PM replied to - with my email address. Hope we can chat a bit via email now and phone call once we have some more info worked out :)

Re: Holograms for barter

Ok I'll bite. I don't really have any lasers I want to trade at the moment but I have to say I love the 2 macaws hologram. Any idea what you would want for that one?

I admit I'm in the same boat as RHD. I dont know much about them including the going rate. I do have a single color (green) framed hologram that I picked up from a shop in a local artist community many years ago.

These full color holograms are beautifull! Found some youtube videos...

Do you sell these full color holograms?

Cheers

Re: Holograms for barter

To jcramner,

The Lieberman holograms are silver-halide reflection film holos. They are ~11x15 inches in size and are ready for framing and lighting. They will require a single point source light (50-75W narrow spot halogen) to illuminate and display them properly. The price is $250/ea. for most of the images including the Macaws.

To reginak,

I am not sure which full-color holograms you saw on youtube, but, yes, we do sell full-color digital holograms as well.

Thanks for your inquiries, I should have posted here long ago.:D

Re: Holograms for barter

Hey, welcome to the forums.

I remember when I was a lad, the Mall of America just opened, and they had a hologram store. I was amazed at the quality of the holograms because I had never seen anything like that before. It was absolutely my favorite store in the mall. High tech, 3D art.

That cool! I'd love to get one, but they are a little out of my price range at the moment. (I have a Macaw that looks just like that holo!) Here is my lack of knowledge again, but are these one of a kind or are these produced in some quantity? In other words is that the only one with the Macaws you have or are there multiple copies of the same scene?

Question: Can you provide framing and the proper light setups as well?

Hello jcranmer,

There were a limited number of these holograms produced, probably less than 100. I happen to have a few available. So they are very collectable and will appreciate in value as display holography matures as an art form.

Yes we can professionally frame and provide lighting units as well. However most individuals who start collecting holograms have them framed to match their personal style and decor. And for lighting, simple track lighting installed on the ceiling works best. This way one can start a small collection and display 3 or more holograms in one area. When they tire of an image, they can simply pull it down and hang a different hologram up for a while. Just like regular art!

I realize $$$ are tight these days. I would love to trade one of the "MaCaws" holograms for one of the many lasers you have on your signature list.:)
