Uhh, what's computer folding?

Uhh, what's computer folding?

Folding@home - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's a small portion of the page. There is quite a bit more. I was doing it for a while. I want to create a dedicated machine though.

Folding@home (FAH or F@h) is a distributed computing project for disease research that simulates protein folding, computational drug design, and other types of molecular dynamics. The project uses the idle processing resources of thousands of personal computers owned by volunteers who have installed the software on their systems. Its primary purpose is to determine the mechanisms of protein folding, which is the process by which proteins reach their final three-dimensional structure, and to examine the causes of protein misfolding. This is of significant academic interest with major implications for medical research into Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, and many forms of cancer, among other diseases. To a lesser extent, Folding@home also tries to predict a protein's final structure and determine how other molecules may interact with it, which has applications in drug design. Folding@home is developed and operated by the Pande laboratory at Stanford University, under the direction of Vijay Pande, and is shared by various scientific institutions and research laboratories across the world.

I see some of you collect coins. My dad used to collect coins,if I take some photos could anynone estimate worth :D?

Nice bearded dragons you got there,do you let them walk freely in the room ,or they have some kind of cage?

They all have their own 75 gallon tanks, but I get them out to run around and hang out alot.

Lasers - 50+ handhelds, 2 HeNe gas lasers.
Tesla Coiling - SSTC, Audio modulated Plasma, Speaker, and a DRSSTC (Onetesla is coming soon!)
Electronics - PCB design, power supplies etc.
Gadgets - Night vision, thermal optics, knifes.
Japanese motorcycles and turbo cars

I shouldn't have waited so long to wade into this thread. I've learned that many of us are special breeds of nerd/geek around here (no surprise).
Here's my list...obviously besides lasers:

Photography (3rd gen professional, retired)
Horticulture (rosarian for 20yrs, species surveying)
Texas State Master Naturalist (prairie plant/restoration specialty)
Marksmanship (father was Marine Sniper, I trained for Olympic trials)
Gear Head (former amateur drag racer)
Computer Hardware (retired)
Artist (retired gallery artist; photography/pottery/sculpture)

These days, I'm just raising my daughter, keeping up with species migration, and the lasers. I don't have time for much else, of late.

SBA,may you upload some best pictures of your photographer's career?

Virtually everything I had stored digitally was stolen when my office was broken into and my servers and workstations walked out. This was before the days of cloud storage.

I have a few digital copies of some gallery work, but these are from the days of PS 3.0 and crappy flatbed scanners. If there is that much interest, I'll try to put them on my Flickr page.
