hey, i recently has a laser pen shined into my left eye and now their is a small fussy dot in the centre of vision, does anyone know what this may be and if it will go? im prettu sure my laser is ment to be too weak to harm a eye? that laser pen i have is Powerful Green Laser Pointer Pen Beam Light 1mW Professional Lazer High Power | eBay

Thanks,
Rob.

clearly your laser was not too weak..

schedule an eye exam with a real doctor *right now*.

it's sad to say, but you cannot trust the specs on cheap laser pointers. the vendors lie because:

1) they have no idea what they're talking about.
2) if they underspec them, it's easier to get them past customs
3) they don't care and they want to compete with all the other vendors that are lying.

the only way to really know how powerful a laser is is to meter it with a known good laser power meter.

I've bought several laser pointers from ebay and I have had a few that I suspect came in above the stated 5mw...one in particular I suspect might be in the 30mw range, but I don't have a meter so I really cant say for sure. My suggestion would be to go see an optometrist.

yeah i guess not, i think it may be as i was in a darkish room at the time aswell.
Ill do that, thanks!

IF your eye hurts it would be a good idea to go to A+E / Emergency room to get something which can help reduce the swelling. Eyes can sometimes feel stingy and dry though after looking at bright lights.

it wierdly doesnt hurt there is just a annoying fussy patch, like flash blindness but iv had it for 3 days -_- can flash blindness last this long :0 and yeah i have a doc appointment booked tomorrow in the morning, thanks

This is scary, lucky it wasn't more powerful, either way I'd for sure be going to the eye doctor ASAP, 3 days is already to long to wait. I'm sure its not flash blindness but I don't know for certain. hope everything works out.

Would you go to a forum for help if you severed your finger? Go see an eye doctor before your body starts repairing the damage itself with scar tissue. Supposedly the emergency room is no help from what Xoul experienced.

And if you're curious after you get back from the opthamologist you might want to consider sending your laser to one of the reputable members of this forum to have it metered. If the laser hit your eye for only a moment it's probably way over spec. Some of the cheap feebay green lasers have been tested at 50mW+

Again, do not wait. Get thee to an opthamologist, or at least an emergency room, NOW!

yeah i know i should have gone to a&e asap but i phoned a eye doctor and they said make an appointment at your local gp, but ill go to a and e as soon as i can get a lift as im only 18 and havent past my driving test yet,

Could be a freak laser that is way over 50mW too... you never know. It's worse if you get hit by IR because it looks dim but burns a hole right through your retina (which you can't even feel but you will be able to notice a dark/fuzzy spot in your vision)

Hopefully it's not anything serious, but 3 days is concerning... good luck

They can't do anything for you at the emergency room anyway, save for swelling and pain. They'll just tell you to hit up your optometrist.

An optometrist won't be able to help. The OP'er needs to see an opthamologist, stat. Preferably one familiar/experienced with the treatment of laser injuries to the retina.

(Woohoo! 100 posts, Wish this one was on a more....playful thread)

Hope we hear from robhartle1995 soon with an update. And hopefully there will be no permanent damage. I'm curious as to the details of this incident.
