[HELP] Diode from LG Burner

Hello LPF,
I searched the whole forum already but can't find anything related.

Well I bought an LG GH22LP20 lightscribe 22x dvd burner. I opened it and I got (I think) 2 diodes from it. Since im a big newb I dont even know if these are diodes but I can't find anything more that looks like a diode though. The problem is that the diodes look pretty small and not really like the ones you see often. Here are some pictures.

Which one is a diode that is useful for burning? Any help would be REALLY appriciated. Thanks!

Both are useable for burning, but diode number one is propably the red one.

alright, well the pins are solder together. Do I have to remove that, because which one is + and - ?

Though it ought to be in its own sticky, you can look in Spyderz20x6's tutorial at the bottom for the pin-out.

I agree, diode #1 looks like the red. It will need to be removed from the heatsink/mount its in and pressed into a collimator before it can be used.
Its a safe bet it will be a LOC

it was the first diode that was red, I tried it on 2 AA batteries just for testing. Gonna use driver afterwards . It worked for a couple times, but now it seems it doesn't work anymore. Do I already blew up the diode now? (connecting those pins with batteries is hard tho without making shortcut)

Yes, you probably killed it. never hook a diode up directly to batteries. this is one of the first things you should have read when you read the FAQ... You know, this one: http://laserpointerforums.com/f36/basic-faqs-read-before-posting-38275.html ??

Had you read that you'd already have figured out which pin is which and never to hook it up directly to batteries without a driver and you'd have found out useful tips for removing it from its heatsink and how to get it into an aixiz module etc etc etc.

Stop what you're doing and read up on how to not screw it up.
