I decided to join this forums to get needed info on lasers before i made a purchase.

1. whats the limit to what i can own or purchase in the US
2. what can i visually see to make sure the mW is what is claimed (safety switched etc)
and
3. what brand or regions to avoid buying from.

:thanks:

1. 5mW
2. There's not much you can do with your eyes, you're going to need an LPM to verify the power is what it claims to be.
3. Wicked Lasers

5mW is all that can be sold in the US or all that I can legally own? I seen a billion youtube videos and it seems like 5mW is the lower end toy stuff.

5mW is still dangerous, no laser should ever be considered "a toy"

Lots of people own higher powered lasers; as it's hard for the US to enforce the law.

I see. WELL. I am here to learn and I appreciate the info. back to the switched.

which lasers are required to have a 2nd kill switch or 2nd on button?

1. fatness of wallet factor
2. dependant on wavelength. Green is easiest for our eyes to see.
3. Buy from respected LPF members first. Avoid those with bad rep in feedback section.(both members and companies)
please add your location your profile page... we help those we live near best and often in person.
