Hello All,

I have been lurking around here for a while, and I am glad to join finally!

I am an engineer and I have some laser housing designs, my goal it to produce them, as most custom housings are from flashlights, but I want ones designed for lasers from the get go! I am hoping this will make builds less intimidating for the newer guys as it will be very straight forward!

Welcome to LPF.

As diachi said nice 3D printed metal hosts would be awesome. Great designs might be done with this technology. :)

3D metal printed hosts would be awesome! but I don't have 100,000 dollars for a printer! Oh no, don't worry, the hosts will be metal!

Right now, I am thinking of focusing on compact powerful builds; a host that is versatile for different powers and wavelengths! It has been fun so far, contacting manufactures and sending them my drawings... I might loose money, but I cant think of a funner way to though :D:D

Hi Chris,
Welcome to LPF Read the stickies and you can hunt for info with our LPF Google search bar. Have fun and be safe.

Rich:)

Welcome to LPF Chris!
Looking forward to what you have in mind, anything new and interesting is always more than welcome here; photos are always a plus!
Have fun, be safe, and enjoy your stay here at LPF. :yh:

Maybe add some location info to your profile. Looking forward to seeing what you make.

Yes, I will certainly add more info to my profile!

Unique designs, the problem there is that my manufacture requires 200 units of each design, so it has to appeal to several people so I don't loose too much :)

But I will try, again my passion is hosts that are pocket size but very powerful that will be bale to accommodate many different diodes and wavelengths! Right now I am thinking of using 1 14500 battery for power.

I would like to hear your ideas though and I will post my designs on the forum and that way everyone can vote on them and make suggestions!!

Welcome---LPF is a great forum.

The LPF Search function at bottom of page allows you to access the extensive data base of LPF --most questions can be answered by using LPF Seach--but in case you ever get stuck or confused --you will find members who are experts in all areas of and anything t do with lasers eager to help you--so feel free to ask

Remember always safety first--use safe laser handling practices and always wear laser goggle. See and study this web site ----it answers many questions about safety and legal matters re: lasers : Laser Pointer Safety - A comprehensive resource, for safe and responsible laser use

Hello, Chris. Welcome to the LPF. I think you would be better off if you rethought your designs as 14500 batteries are tiny and don't carry much energy. Also, with the power of many of these diodes, you will need large effective heat sinks made of aluminum or copper for their better thermal conductivity.

Hello Chris, welcome to LPF from my short stay here it's a wonderful community and I think you'll feel right at home with your experience and plans to produce some laser-specific hosts! I' sure excited to see your designs when they come to fruition! Welcome!

Paul, good point! But there are many hand held lasers that are very powerful, but my interest is in designing compact ones, as there are not as many available. I do also have some ideas to make the small ones very powerful using special batteries:)

You are certainly right about the heatsink, and the beauty is I design them from scratch so I can incorporate appropriate heat sinks; but yes, I think the duty cycle will be around 30-45 seconds

Here is one of my designs, let me know what you think!??

It is designed for easy build so the user would only need to press in his diode of choice and solder the driver to the diode :)
