Hello, I'm a new laser addict that is just now beginning a new collection of lasers. Once, a very long time ago in 1993 I began my love for the laser by purchasing RadioShacks first red pen type laser. I used it everywhere, and as the only 9th grader with a laser(only kid in whole school), it brought alot of attention. I kept that first laser for over 6 years, until one day it simply stopped working, which was ok, as by that time Red lasers were quite common and easy to come by.
For years, my love for lasers died away, as I thought red was all there was. Then in 2006 I was walking home from a party, and was hit in the face by a green laser that was being shot at me from miles away(up on a mountain). I freaked out at first, but then I just stood there marveling at the fact that I could see the beam from such a distance. That night I began searching online for "green laser". For years I thought I wouldn't be able to afford what most companies were asking, so I gave up my search for them.
Then, just two weeks ago, I was in Radioshack looking for a new antenna for my CB radio, and noticed a 5mw green laser pen for sale at $52.99. After thinking about it for 1 second, I asked the salesman if he minded too much if I put some batteries in it, and tried it in his stockroom with the lights off.

As soon as the lights went off, and the laser came on, I was instantly hooked again. Sure, I had heard the green laser had a visible light beam at night, but I've always been so skeptical, as it really seemed that visible lasers were usually restricted to the realm of raves and science fiction. Anyways, once I played with it for a couple of minutes, I bought it without thinking twice. Later that night, I went to a friends house, and the fun began, as they had only seen red lasers, and had never even heard of, let alone seen, a laser of another color. It was about 10pm when I showed up, and being in the country, in west texas, it was VERY dark, so I pulled my laser out immediately.
I pointed it into their house through the window, directly above the TV set everyone was gathered around, and instantly "WTF! HOLY SHIT! WHAT IS THAT" began echoing through their house. They came outside, and found that it was me, and were awestruck, as none of them could believe that I was able to project such a clear laser beam from such a small object. For awhile, we had some real fun spotting the reflection on road signs miles and miles away from their house. Anyways, I didn't hang long, as I wanted to test how far it would shine, so I drove to the tallest hill in my county, and thankfully it was a very clear, very dark night. I spotted an exit sign that I knew was a good 5 miles away, so I pointed it at it, and using my binoculars, I spotted a reflection on it.

At first, the Radioshack 5mw green laser was extremely bright, so bright in fact that the dot could light up a room(dimly, but still enough to navigate), but it began to dim from my near constant use(batteries dying). So I went to my local walmart and began looking into a better battery. After a bit of trial and error over the next 4 days, I found the perfect battery, Energizers advanced lithium. After popping in those, the beam was intense, the dot, like an welder spot, and my joy, boundless.

Ok, now that I'm hooked on them, I want to get a burning laser, and was wondering if Dragonlasers 95mw would be a good choice, seeing as though I have a limited budget(college).

Well, thanks in advance, and KEEP THIS SITE UP!

Wow i had no idea that radio shack's 5mw green was so expensive. I've never owned one of the "name brand" lasers. I've also just made my own.
