I won several He-Ne tubes, PSU's,beam combiners, fiber optics, etc. in a flea-bay auction <$26.00 for all.
Had to think of some ways to use them.
IE: make them safer,so I don't get the sh#t shocked out of me.
Bought a project box and a few other goodies..
The fan is mostly WOW factor,but it doesn't hurt.

The insides. (was just roughed in pics. Has been bundled, heatshrunk, etc.
since then. I assure you the Hot Glue was just to hold everything in place, to be replaced with epoxy after testing.

I take the battery out of a spare UPS and Velcro the laser box to it.

How much did it all cost in the final build?

It's hard to say because I buy boxes of laser stuff on e-bay.
But, I'd say around $25-30, but you have to do hours of watching and bidding to get the good deals. (probably <1%)

You know what would have been even awesomer? A semi transparent box so you can still see the tube glow :D

Aww man $25 to $30 is awesome for something like that, I guess I have to keep my eyes open for it.
 
I always love "High Voltage" warnings, as if a high voltage itself is enough to do harm to people lol
In any case that's an awesome retro looking laser, I've always thought that gas laser innards look absolutely badass ;)
