I'm just curious, has anyone here ever met someone in real life after connecting with them online? By this, I'm talking about in-person meetings that occured solely due to online interactions. For example, adding your future roommate on Facebook before moving into the dorms doesn't count.

I can say that I've met online "acquaintances" before. But because I'm fairly concerned about the safety of doing so - mainly because some people aren't who they say they are - I generally only do it for business reasons unless that person goes to the same school as me, etc.

The first time was someone from the GIMPS forum. One of his posts indicated he was a researcher at my university, so I went to his office to say hi - but not before checking my school's directory to make sure he really worked there.

The second time, I ran into a guy from LUE2 (a spin-off of the GameFAQs forums) at a college dance. This was purely a coincidence, though.

Other than that, I've traded textbooks in person after connecting with the buyer/seller online. In addition, I've had many recruiters contact me on LinkedIn for job interviews. I think it's only going to be a matter of time before I meet them face-to-face. :)

A couple of times I've met up with members on LPF. Once to sell a DAC and once to sell a Laser. That's the scope of my experiences with this :p

i hope too but have not yet :( i am trying to find a LEM i can make it too so hopefully with in the next year or too i will be able to :tinfoil:

I would love to go to a LEM, closest one is in Portland Oregon which is still a bit far :/

I cant tell you how much tail I got from AOL. The first thing I did on AOL was download porn, the second was meeting girls from my area. IMO the only uses for AOSmell.

If you like older women there is an endless supply out there for grabs that just want to get laid. You dont even have to try in most cases.

'Twas on my way back from MA, when I decided to call HMike up for a visit. Well worth the detour!

I met my wife on line.
We started out chatting, chatting became international phone calls, international phone calls grew into international travel, after a few trips to Europe we got married.

Thank god. I was starting to think I was the only one who picked up girls over the internet.

You guys scare me sometimes. :shhh:

Im part of a few car forums and i had posted a few photos up of my car, one particular day when i parked out front of Subway to get lunch, some random guy came up to me and quoted my forum username lol

Like T_J , Ive met a few girls off the net, back in the day (mid-late 90's) when everyone seemed to be on AOL , I got talking to a girl, I was with a girl at the time, turned out she was up the road from me , I ended up ditching my gf, getting with this new one, then moved to Scotland with her! , lasted a couple of years, fizzled out and that was that. met loads of women since off the net.

I met my wife "online". Of course online was a BBS back then, not the Internet. Guess I'm showing my age again. :)

I had the good fortune of meeting Jeff thats about it. I would love to meet more of you guys.

When I was growing up we had CompuServe. I remember trying hard for a few years to get my Dad to switch to AOL. Aol was the popular service to have.
We finally switched just after my dad helped me put my first computer together 486sx 2mb ram and a 20mb hard drive:eek:
