Has Anyone Successfully Used the JD850/JD851 eBay Laser as a Host?

Have any of you folks been able to mount your own diodes into this?
I am looking to build a compact 1W greenie (9mm NUGM03) and wanted to see if anyone might have some pointers/past experience to share.

Thanks for the input!

Yeah I'm looking for a 15 sec duty cycle, the idea is it needs to be super portable

EDIT: I'm not going for a styropyro style 5 sec 1400mW laser pen lol

I'd say go with Survival Laser's S4 or C6. Both are super portable and yet actually have a heatsink. Also they are made to be the simplest to DIY your own diodes and drivers.

Also just a heads up, you posted about a green laser pointer in the red lasers section.

I would love to use the SL kits, but they are literally just a few millimeters too wide. My laser must be a maximum of 25mm in diameter and 150mm in length. If nobody's done this before then I guess I'm going to need to get creative XD

The JD851 laser I bought is red, but yeah I could move it to green section later (since I'll be changing it into green).

How did you get those specific dimensions? Just curious.

I have a very nice, big marker that I want to hollow out and store the laser within

Hi, That host not a good idea even for 5 sec, Its like running that diode with no heat sinking. Yes as said get a C6 host from SL as a minimal.

Yeah maybe you're right. Do you think I could file down its sides so it is 2mm smaller in diameter? Or would that be too risky?

Thanks

I have actually been wanting to do a Sharp 505nm or 492nm in one of these hosts just for the fun but I havnt really gotten around to it. knowing me itll never happen. I still have a 3.5A driver I was gonna use for a 07E, my plan was 2 years ago and its still sitting in my laser box. so who knows if itll happen anytime soon lol

Lol, feel free to post any pics if you're successful. Also, if you happen to have a broken JD850 host, could you please open the laser cavity and take a picture inside?

I want to see if it's possible to drill a 9mm hole in it for my green diode

I have this broken host that was a 532.
The body is about 24.1 mm and tail cap is just about 25mm at it widest.
The length with the front on is 145mm
The little heatsink ID is about 10.7mm

Nice, is that custom built? Or if not, where could I get myself one?

Thanks

No just another style cheapie ebay 532 pointer.
It was only putting out about 50mW's so I took it apart for curiousity. I ended up breaking the pins of the back of the pump diode.
It was only $10 or $15 if even that? The good thing about it is the tail cap is the switch instead of the side switch and key in theback like the 303's.

Neat, I found it on eBay. Do you think it'll be able to give me a 15 sec duty cycle with a 1w green diode (NUGM03)?

Maby?? but that has to be the max, and you have to let it cool for 60 seconds after.
If you have a strong green then you know just how hot they run. Only you can tell when you feel the if you build it.

Why not have Lifetime17 mod a little Cree Flashlight for you?
