Group Buy # 3 For Sony 16X DVD Burner Didoes

Just a little ray of hope for those who have only bought one of these LDs. :) Having read about how easy it is to blow them through static and soldering etc I purchased 2, I have never worked with LDs before and I am not the worlds best with a soldering iron, but I now have both up and running.
I even managed to drop one on the floor of the workship, when I found it it was covered in doghairs and dust, I just gave it a quick cleanup, pressed it into the module, wired it up, connected it to DDL's circuit and it lit straight up!

A quick note to those of you that I sent emails to requesting additional funds to cover the price hike - if you do not like the price hike, simple - request a refund - do not be nasty about it in an email, you will receive like in kind. I am not taking one for hte team, and saying, okay - I will let you take $3 out of my pocket - piss off. Not happening. you do not like it, EASY - it will be refunded, per the emails I sent out. There is NEVER any cause to be nasty to me, or anyone else on the forum - quick way out of the group buy, and FUTURE buys as well as a super fast way to find yourself in a very unattractive light with me. Any questions, email me, I would be more than happy to discuss it. Do not EVER challenge my honesty and integrity, if you do - you will find out the hard way what it is like to be cut off from lots of future fun with lasers, and group buys that show you a bargain. Enough already.

come on folks;
SenKat is doing us all an awesome service here.

dont bite the hand that feeds.

Greg AKA Senkat has been working his cute little ass off on these GB's and has been honest and upfront the whole time which i know the vast majority of you know already, the email he sent out was informative and honest and was very well written.

Greg's supplier put the price up half way through the order which is very bad business practice and in theory Greg could of refused and given everyone refunds, but he bartered the price hike down so that those who still wanted and didnt mind paying the increase got the best possible deal those who didnt could have a refund.

These diodes at the increased price are still a bargain and why the supplier didnt charge more before hand is beyond me, I was expecting a price increase but to do it through a deal as i said is not nice but our hands are tied as there is no where else that supplies them at this price.

I full heartedly support Greg and I am sure virtually everyone else here does too.

Martin.
Paypal sent for 1 diode.

How will you send it, in an envelope?

It's gonna be a real pain in the ass to find a good flashlight model here in Argentina,,,

Padded envelope, and check Deal Extreme for a decent flashlight - they have LOTS of nice looking candidates !
Hey SenKat:
I'm sure you've seen the plethora of greenies there (Deal Extreme) at incredibly cheap prices. BUT, no IR filters I assume?

All the lasers they sell have IR filters - they SAY they do not, to cover their butts just in case they happen to receive one that doesn't - but all I have seen DO in fact have them - there are a ton of threads here discussing the DX lasers though - the ups, the downs, the quality, etc...

Hey senkat,
many thanks for running this group buy. I had a dvd laser diode, but I was a complete idiot with it. I'm doing how-too from another site and they never mentioned voltages... so I hooked it up to a 9V.

In short, your a lifesaver.

hooking a laser diode to 9v :o :o :o :o it would have exploded!!!! ;D

ohhh 403 posts YAY!!!

Ya... 9V is about 4 times the threshold voltage on these things! :o :o Did it even flash anything? I'd be surprised if it even still worked as an LED!! :-?

Well... I hope you enjoy reading a few of the guides in the exp & mod section of the forum. lots of good and valuable information there for the taking :)
