Green Laser diodes on ebay?






I am not as expierienced as a lot of you guys are, that's why I put it up to get your opinion on it. :bowdown:

I'm pretty sure these are little modules...as in it's a DPSS 532nm laser module (with IR diode + crystals), but miniaturized in order to fit it inside a much smaller module.

No clue about quality, but they do look like those miniature modules like we've seen before.

From supertechshop I highly doubt it - they look like old junk surplus photodiodes like Proto said. Usually the tiny green dpss modules are longer due to the crystal cavity. However feel free to drop $50 and find out =P
 
A bit of investigating turns up that these were green modules, but that is a 5.6mm can, and the total module was 13.6mm long by 5.6mm wide, obviously those aren't 13.6mm long, so they may have been at one point but not anymore.


Edit: And there were no collimation optics, it was raw crystal output, at ~9mRad divergence.

They look nothing like the listing...

My guess if anything, is that these are IR LD's used for that super long can design in the
first pic above...

I was just going to make a thread about this when I saw yours.

It probably is how prototype says that these are the ir diodes from the greens, but i cant help notice some differences between the two photos.

1. On the brass bottom part of the diode in the bigger green module it has those 3 indensions or whatever like a regular diode has and the ebay greens dont.
2. The brass bottom of the real green is much thicker than the ebay ones.
3. The ebay ones have a crimp in them the other one doesnt. (may be covered up)
4. I cant be sure but it doesnt seem like the real green has that little tab on it.
5. The pins are different, but the pins in the top picture look like they are shop'd so they may really be the same.

At only 5 dollars each they are quite cheap to be anything good, but somebody with the money feel free to test them out.

Those looks as phototransistors or photodiodes ..... no alignment marks, not enough thick base for drain heat, usual phototransistor shape (including the tab for mark the emitter .....)

Personally, i highly doubt they can be any kind of "green diodes" ..... especially at that price, if they was also just 5mW real green laser diodes, they must cost 10 times more .....

Maybe very very old green LEDs ? ..... i have something similar, in my LEDs collection, from a lot of time ago, for the first red ones (also if they have only 2 leads) ..... and one of the first IR LEDs produced, that have 3 leads and a metal case .....
 
Probably see green diodes, if/when a commercial product demands them first.
 
Seems like a strore that sells all kinds of electronic dump gear. I doubt they can be mini-dpss modules due to their small size, but what they actually are is hard to tell from the picture.

They look like phototransistors to me, but as suggested, they could be very old green leds too.
 
Supertechshop is...questionable. If you look at the link I posted earlier, you'll see that you take a big risk with anything you buy from them.
 
Little green things in cans do exist.

Google "Snake River Microlasers"

It is also not hard to put a MCA in a can with a pump diode, just no collimating optics.
