Dammit, Bshcott - can't believe I missed stating such a simple, obvious fact. +1 for paying attention, Amigo!

@bschoot: also obvious, specially with green lasers go and get glasses, at 170mW it will burn your eyes just looking at the wall xD
Well while I agree that it would be obvious to those of us newbies that take time to research the stickies, lurk the posts, and basically take our time and learn what we are getting into before even purchasing our first laser, there are some (like the OP...original poster) who just want that 'cool toy' and are not thinking of their eyes.
They simply see these as laser pointers that can do cooler things than that simple 5mW pointer, but don't understand the inherent risks that come with using a higher power laser. It is in the mind that they were using this 5mW pointer without glasses so when they get a 100mW green burner, well it's a green laser pointer to them...with just the cool feature of being able to burn things. They don't think of the fact that these are much more dangerous than the 5mW pointers are.
Heck, that was MY mindset before I started researching. When I learned looks can be decieving and a Labby 100mW will damage your eyes just as readily as a 100mW hand-held pointer-style, well then I sat up and paid attention to IR filters and goggles.
I'm really just saying that a lot of newbies that would come here looking for their first burning lasers are normally not thinking that they could damage their eyes by using these lasers. It is common sense to those who are hobbiests and enthusiests, however to the common layperson, it isn't obvious.
I personally think, and this is just me, that as hobbiests/enthusiests, when a newbie comes to the board asking what to buy for a burning laser (especially one that sounds like they just want to play with a burner and are not interested in lasers in general...they see the burner as a toy) one thing we should do (and again, I'm new so please don't take this as me stepping on toes, I don't mean to come off that way!) in my opinion is be responsible and mention that 'yes, you can get ABC laser for $xxx price, however you will need eye protection for it and here is what you need (link) for that laser's wavelength' or something to that effect.
We hear about more and more people hurting themselves or others, misusing their pointers and burners, and generally giving lasers a bad rap. As people who love and enjoy our hobby, shouldn't it be up to us to make sure that if a newbie is going to ask us about a recommendation for a high-power laser, that we should impress on them that they seriously could hurt themselves or others very easily and these are not toys.
I'm afraid that, IMHO, if we as hobbiests do not take responsibilty to warn new laser owners like this about the possible dangers associated with useing these lasers, then we are being negligent and contributing to the problem...which one day may turn around and bite us in the behinds in the form of strict laws and legislation. Please do not think I am coming down on anyone that posted in this thread, I'm not! I am just expressing my opinion on why I mentioned the safety aspect. Other hobbiests can do as they wish. I personally believe that if we can impress on someone that using these high-powered pointers as pet toys (how often do you see youtube vidoes where the person playing with the laser and laughing at their pet chasing the laser hits a reflective object with the beam...imaging a 120mW beaming back into their eyes from a polished metel chair or table leg), or using these the same as a low-power pointer (waving it around, beaming things) is not recommended and could really hurt someone.
Just my two cents
If the KD units doesn't get reviewed soon I' gonna buy this, both you and brewictymusic got good units, I hope I get it tooHere's the "200mW" that I ended up getting that actually peaks at 144mW and can light red matches at a foot, pops ballons, cuts tape etc:

I have this one as well.
Now i doin't have a LPM, but i'd say it's running around 110-120Mw.
I like it alot not just for the Mw's, but because of it's heavy feel and size. Mine came in a nice case (as shown on the web site) and also the warning sticker that i can put on if i want.

Hold off for a day or two, H - I have 3 more on the way that were shipped EMS on Friday so I should have them early in the week, I'll LPM them and then you can be a bit more secure in the purchase...
This pic is of that laser.
