Because they give great birthday gifts! In my case, an Optotronics GLP-150 for the big 4-0.

It looks similar to a DX True 30, but that is where the similarities end. I powered it up and WHAM! A faint beam in a sunlit room and the brightest spot ever seen on a wall. The green output is stable with no visual evidence of power fluctuations. I also defocused the beam using an external lens and the shape is perfect TEM00.

Jack certifies it as 152mW. With fresh NiMH rechargeables, it metered as high as 170mW, but of course some of this is IR. Even bearing this in mind, I do believe that this laser pumps out at least the advertised 150mW of green. After all, this is Optotronics here.

This is an impressive laser, and to think this is from Optotronics's "bargain" line. I can easily recommend this to anyone looking for a beefy pen-sized 532nm green laser. Jack delivers yet again!

Pics/beamshots to follow in the near future.

Congrats i hope in the future i have a wife that will buy me lasers

Why? What will Lawson do?

Congrats on your laser dude! I have two of those and they are great!

Yes, laser buying wives rock! Congrats on your birthday Booty. My birthday was last week and wife got me a M17X lappy - not as good as a new laser, but she meant well.

m17x Not as good as a laser? Nomad lol you are straight rich. 1800 dollar base price laptop!

Did she get you the decked out sli 280m, QX9300 proccy, 8gb 1333 DD3, 1920x1200 resolution, and swap in 2 120gb Intel x-25E drives for a 7 grand laptop :) Yeah I can dream

God that laptop is amazing, looks great and cooling is top notch. Just be sure to overclock your CPU over 3ghz :) I hear they can do that and more with ease.

Congrats on the new laser and the wife.

I love this.

my wife is paying to have the two kryton grooves I have left, finished with a blu-ray and a red.

She asked me what I wanted this year and that was it.
Thatl'll give me one of each. Not a ton of money, but still very nice for a gift.

I also found out that explaining to her about uranium glass jewelry and how a blu-ray would help identify it, didn't hurt either.

Laser-friendly wives are great!!!

Mine doesn't really care, she thought it was cool when I showed her what you can do with a laser and a camera (she loves photography). So I ended up buying her a 5mW green pen for her own private use.
