Got a new computer :D






I literally just bought a R9 280x, these dogecoins are sucking me in .. and they're worthless! (so far :p )
 
man the amd stuff runs hot ! what cooler are you using ? stock ? did you swap out the crap thermal pad for some decent thermal paste at least ? :)

any reason you went for the EVO over the Pro in the samsung 840 series ?

I have to agree the 3570K for slightly more would have been a better choice, and in relation to others talking about 3xxx vs 4xxx series not being much different its true... im sitting on a 5.1ghz 2600K and theres absolutely nothing viable to upgrade to :(

not that its slow rofl.

The CPU is stock liquid cooled and the thermal paste is Arctic Silver, the Graphics card has built in fans which only come on when playing BF4 or something, and if I turn my case fans to high they will usually turn off again.

Also I got it pre-built because the price wasn't all that much different and they had sales. And on their website the 3570K wasn't an option.

I went with the EVO because it was cheaper and the PRO didn't offer that many improvements to justify the $100 increase in price
 
73C on liquid is fucking ridiculous !!

what sort of voltage are you running at for that overclock? you should only need 1.4 - 1.45v max for that, and 70degrees should only be hit when 100% prime95 testing, not every day use !!!

I said 70 max, right now just browsing the internet its 48 right now, and it's integrated water cooling
 
yeah but is max using stress testing ? or just general gaming?

closed water loops arent that great, is it like an h100i or something?

ah ok so standard gaming not stress testing

that is insanely hot for a non stress tested result at 4.7ghz.. what voltage is the cpu running at ?

The voltage is at 1.596. I am going to install 2 more case fans, but I need to measure the size of the holes on the top of the case first, which I will do when I get my new monitor for Christmas sense I have to take my computer out of my desk anyway. (It's in a closed cabinet but the front door is open and I drilled a hole in the back and put a small fan there which I can turn on with a switch, although turning it on seems to have no effect on any of the temp measurements)
 
fans in a closed water loop wont do anything to your cpu temp unless you are changing your rad fans :-)

Not 100% correct. if he has his case setup where the RAD is is the only exit for air, more fans will make more air flow through the rad due to higher pressure within the case :)
 
haha yes well !!!!!!!!!!!!!! one would hope a such highly strung system hasn't been setup like that, but who am i to assume!

man ... ive never actually thought about that - people don't seriously do that do they?
 
UPDATE:

The computer broke, idk what broke but when I turned it on everything would start up but it would display nothing on the monitor so I assume it was the GPU (which mind you is the most expensive part at around $500). So I sent it back to ibuypower for a refund (they have a no hassle 30 day return policy), I just had to pay for return shipping ($100).

I got a new computer from cyberpower, exact same specs except a different (bigger) mobo, a corsair obsidian 750D (it's a monster), and water cooling (not integrated, the legit type) for the CPU, also the cpu is now clocked at 4.4GHz (which I want to overclock it more but I'm kindof hesitant to do so. It also has 4 240mm (I think) fans

It now runs at:

Idle*:

CPU: 24°C
GPU: 36°C

Under load**:

CPU: 34°C
GPU: 58°C

*On the internet
**Running Bioshock Infinite

This computer is wonderful, it is all the good of the old one, with all the problems fixed. And it only cost me $200 extra.
 
I just finished the base setup of my build... Intel 4770K at 4.5 Ghz stable only 65 Celsius on a closed loop (h90) running prime 95 for 12h. I'm going to clock it at stock though while I wait for my GPU. Stuck between choosing a r9 290x or a 780 ti.

Did you try the internal graphics on the old one? I had an identical issue where everything would power up, but I got no POST beeps or display on either the GPU or integrated graphics. Turns out I killed the mobo while cleaning it with compressed air! Luckily a cheap fix :)
