Good deal or not?

So I just purchased a Green HeNe laser and now I'm having a bit of buyers remorse.:(
It hasn't shipped yet, and I might still have a chance to "cancel" the purchase.
So I was just wondering, what is considered a good price for a green HeNe laser and power supply?
The laser is a Coherent 31-2772-000 that the seller metered at almost 3mw and a 12VDC Coherent PSU.

Thanks in advance.

TBH- if I were the seller i would hold you to the buy- remorse is not a good reason to cancle IMO

maybe you could just list it FS later and get most of your $$ back- at SaM's Laser you can get the specs on the PS you will need- do not use just any walwart you find-
I thought got a good deal on two green REOs NOS - at 150$ each (no PS included)

I would just keep a serach going for Hene PSs--or see id Sam has one FS in Sam's Classifieds- also maybe a WTB thread will berting you some results-
it may be possible for you to build a PS also

neon signs sometimes have a PS with an Alden plug - but you need to match the vdc pretty close to spec.

but first you need to get the specs

how much did the tube set you back??

The PSU is included, and it's the correct PSU for the tube also:).-> 2.5-3.1KV @ 6.5ma
The price was $141+shipping.

SO !!!! For a green HeNe -- It's a good price if it works.
LIKE -- a nice color.
SO... Some sellers don't provide good tracking. Ask them
through the net. Fleabay will kick ass.

a 12v dc power supply is the least expensive of the Power supplies for these. - Usually less than $50
But the trick if finding a good price on the one you need.

A Green HeNe will go anywhere from $50 and up - WAY UP. Depends on size and power and age and reliability and who you got it from.

The new Merediths on ebay are going for $195.00 but you could get them for $100 a while back (don't know if you still can) They are rated for 2mw, but will sometimes do 3+

So it wasn't a bad deal

$150-200.00 for a 1-2mW for a bare tube, with no supply is kinda the norm. surplus wise....so 150 for a 3mW with a supply is a pretty darn good deal...the supplies for those big tubes are quite pricy.

IMHO those tubes are several grand new from manufacturer, so hey I take any price with a grain of salt...

OK, The laser just arrived :D I hooked it up to a computer PSU for the 12VDC and after connecting the TTL to ground I powered it up.... and it worked. :) :) :) :) :)
I was very pleasantly surprised by how bright it is. Unfortunately I don't have a LPM to measure it, so I can't be sure of the power.
Pics will be coming as soon as I can figure out how to get them here ;)

Again, thanks to everyone for all their help.

Yeah you got a good deal on it! Only reason I sold mine was space. didn't have any room for it. I bought mine for 150 shipped if I remember right and it was a 2mW.

And as far as an LPM goes, you would need a low power HeNe LPM, otherwise it will not be accurate enough.

Congrats! I love HeNes and glad you like it!

I have a melles griot LPM calibrated for 20uW-2W with half second response, all wavelengths. I could measure it if you wanted, but I don't think it'd be a good idea to ship it all over. I would wager that depending on age it'll be 2-3mW if it's still fresh (Likely it is)... But I know a fair few including mine that have tipped over 4mW!

It says it was manufactured in September 2002. That seamed a little "new" to me but I'm not sure how old most of them are:thinking:, and because the head uses a MG tube the actual tube might be a little older but I wouldn't think significantly.

Sadly age has little to do with it. Just runtime...which sadly you can't tell easily most of the time. It likely has its whole life ahead based on what I'm hearing
