'GODMODE' for windows 7 users

I'm temped to use a phrase that I don't use at all.(Fighting noises[Get back OMG, you too WTF] Box slamming shut).
I'm going to have fun with this though, I'm on Win 7 now and I was quite surprised.
This is a slight problem though, if a well written program could create said folder,
it could be a worry.
(Don't worry, I don't know a crumb of C++ or C).

Regards

Lachlan

It's incredibly easy to create this folder programmatically (it's literally a one-liner [outside of the main method and any using directives]).

The good news is, you can't really do much with it unless you are on the admin account or have the admin password. This is just a shell folder that you are accessing, which provides "all tasks" in an easy to access place. You could literally rename this anything (Intrigue_Rocks.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}), but "GodMode" sounds cooler. =)

Hey!!!! This has been out forever...I can't believe that none of you have heard of this. LOL :) Thanks for sharing it though. It's clear that most of the population doesn't know about this.

Now with that being said....Here is warning to all of you.
DON'T DO THIS "GOD MODE" IF YOU HAVE A 64 BIT MACHINE. it can cause 64-bit versions of Windows to crash.

Now that I have made that clear...for those of you who use a 32 bit machine, have fun using "God Mode" LOL :)

I dual (well tri) boot too. I mainly use a ubuntu based security auditing distro... ;) I'm sure you can guess but I won't mention it since some might have a negative association of it. Used by a lot of script kiddies.
Hopped around to most major distros & tried to avoid ubuntu actually but wound up here anyway.
Haven't booted into windows for a long time but its still there if its ever needed.

Great avatar btw.

I've seen nothing to indicate problems on 64-bit machines, and can't think of a reason that there would be any. In general, folks don't understand the differences in processor architecture or the OS changes to support them. I think it's safe to take the "don't use on x86-64" comment with a grain of salt, unless some supporting material from a tech site can be provided.

I did provide a link to a tech site. It's clear that you didn't read my other post.
Understanding Windows 7's 'GodMode' | Beyond Binary - CNET News

Here is a quote strait from the article.
"The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash."

Maybe this only causes Vista 64 to crash and not Windows 7 64bit. Maybe it's only on older non patched versions....I don't know. I just thought that it would be wise to spread the warning along since a highly reputable tech site says that it can crash 64bit systems.
