Recently, I decided to purchase #5 in this
discussion thread.

YX-016 Durable 5mW 532nm Starry Sky Green Laser Pointer Pen for Burning Matches (1 x 16340)

After taking 23 days to arrive from store
to door, overall I can say I'm quite
pleased. It seems to be a pretty good
laser for the price.

It arrived yesterday in a padded evelnope.
The package had been torn a bit on its long
journey and shaking it I could hear
something rattling around inside. Also,
there are a few dents on the outside of the
host and some of the finish has chipped
off. Luckily, the module is fully intact.
It appeared that the retaining ring that is
supposed to secure it was never tightened
during manufacturing. Thankfully, after
tightening it up it works just fine. The
module is a pretty close slip fit inside
the host for good thermal contact.

The frontice piece, not counting the star
cap, turns in and out for focusing.
Infinity focus, or close to it, is achieved
when the thread bottoms out. So it is
pretty easy to achieve infinity without
much hassle. The lenses appear to be coated
glass, not including a hidden focusing lens
that may possibly be in front of the diode.

The star cap has 2 gratings inside, one
fixed, and one that rotates to vary the
pattern. They look like they are either a
stiff plastic or glass. I can't really
tell without breaking the glue. The cap is
removable by turning it at its base.

The beam quality is pretty good. It is
TEM00 with no hopping and comes out
straight to within what I can detect by
eye. The divergence is .75mRad.

(Here it is hitting the grain elevator
300m distant.)

During a 5 minute LPM test, average power
output was 78mW, peak power was 88mW, and
it never dropped below 73mW during the
entire test. Current measures 330mA at
the tailcap.

This laser likes to be cold. Power drops
off quickly when it gets close to body
temperature. I did not test above that but
it will probably only get worse. My hand
actually heats it up faster than running it
in open air.

I think this is going to be my new favorite
laser. It is definitely a step above the
average pen.

wow thats a nice and stable output for being a 532. Any chance you can take some beam shots to show?

How much is it? I own something similar for about 5$ too. Those chinese green laser always good for star pointing and fun to play with for a cheap price.

@OP were you able to verify a filter for the IR??

This can be done by adding a filter then meter ora aiming thru goggles made for 532- most of what passes with be IR. (depends upon the OD of the eyeware) OD 4 or 5 will block most all of the green.

Unfortunately, it does not.

Not even through the star cap
You can clearly see the pinky dot of IR in
the center here among the green ones.

It was putting out less than 30mW the other
day. I thought it started dying and even
contacted GearBest about it. It turned out
to be completely temperature related and
has since done up to 92mW during further
testing. I guess I had been holding it
long enough to bring it close to body
temperature. It wants to be COLD!

Nice little review. Can't REP you yet.
I've got a couple 532nm pen lasers I just purchased that have a "twist" to them that I'll throw a quick review up soon on.
