GB:S-KY Brand New 200mW Green Portable Laser(Shipping Included)

not good a sample unit that performs poorly
one would think the oposite lol
Hi John,
I don't understand Betty's reply.
Is she saying that the original laser she sent Mike was a free sample and that is the reason she is not replacing with their new version with "heat control"?
If this is the case, then why not let him trade in for the new type, so he can review and post about how much better it is? It should matter if it was a sample or not.

I was under the impression that the laser Mike had heat issues with was not very old.
The picture Betty posted shows their "new" type with a date of almost 2 years ago. It also doesn't mention any improvement in duty cycle or anything related to heat, just better machining, electrical connection and keylock.
I would think if they improved the design for better stability and keeping output up over a couple minutes of time, they would have put that selling point on the photo as well.

Heat Guard

Jack, Here is Sky's description of heat guard. Bill

Green Portable Lasers w/ Heat Guard | SKYlasers

Featuring our Patented Heat Guard

Our portable lasers are probably the most advance handheld laser in the market today. Besides being incredibly high power, our 2010 portable lasers now come with Heat Guard tm, a computer controlled sensor which monitors the temperature of the laser. Many of our portable lasers are used in rugged environments. With this newly developed technology, you can rest assured the laser will not be damaged by overheating. Once maximum temperature is reached, the portable laser will automatically turn off.

I'm running my "gift" tonight. It does output ~180 mW when cold -- 65Deg F but after a couple 30 second runs, it's back down to 60 mW. This laser likes to be cool.
I would make a trade or send back for adjustment but Betty no longer communicates with me. Oh Well............
My OLD 200 mW from her, with my mods, usually goes over 250 mw sometimes hitting 300+ mW. It just went a little over 300 mW !!!
I just ran my "gift". It hit 170 mw and within 30 seconds was 50 mw with a charged cell. My "gift" appears to have been an older model clearance unit. I really don't care. I have other lasers to play with.

HMike

I just took it outside in 60 Deg F temp and ran it about 30 seconds. Brought it back in and WOW - 210 mW !! Warmed the head in my hand for a minute and ---- 60 mW :-(
Too bad ....... This is green technology - not 473 nM.

Hi Mike,

I must say S-KY never give cutomers older model clearance units.I'm sorry I'm busy,so I did't write you so more.

It turns 50mW,maybe it is too hot and used very often.

RIGHT :crackup::crackup:.....

I just posted some run times for you. When warmed in my HOT hand, the power is very low. If it is at about 65 Deg F, It works good but I don't keep lasers in the refrigerator in the summer.

Don't worry about it. You knew I would report on this. I bet your new product is better.

HMike

Do you want me to post graphs? I can do that. We have the Scientech meters. You have one of mine there.

Hi Mike,

No worry about that laser,it is the "Temperature protection".

It's very late there. So wish you a nice dream tonight!

Sincerely,

Betty --

You know I stay up late and this laser does not have the new temperature protection if I'm not mistaken.

With a charged cell, this is the current power graph of this laser resting for about 15 minutes at 65 Deg F. Note that it jumps to 210 mW and stumbles dropping to 50 mW after 50 seconds.

The laser head does not feel warm and it has been 5 minutes to cool. Now the laser quickly drops to about 30 mW and slowly climbs to 85 mW and drops off again after about 2 minutes. The head is still not hot or even very warm.

I don't run my portables for long periods ever. Right now, after a 30 minute cooling period, it has returned to 210 mW. When summer arrives, this laser will not work in 80 Degree F summer heat. This is a winter laser.

Betty -- I don't care about this laser. I've tried to help you in the past and it shall remain there. Betty -- YOU have a good night.

Hi,

Mike's 150mW Filtered green Prtable laser is the new type.

Hi Mike,

Yes,you are right, the date of production of that 150mW laser was Dec,2009,it's a winter laser, and it's one of the firstling we selling in the market for the 2010 version. =)

Thanks for these posts,I will collect more information about these products.

Sincerely,
Betty

Hi,

This laser is not the same to the old version like 2 years ago. But the ourside color is the same.

Thanks for your comments,we will do better.

Betty

I was just cleaning and putting my winter lasers away for the warm summer months . See you all in November!

When this laser is cool, it works very well. I'm afraid that when it gets to 90 Deg F outside, useable duty cycle will be short.
We are learning that DPSS lasers can be temperature sensitive but Greens is now old science and most have overcome these problems.

HMike

Betty ---

It finally got warm here - 85 Deg F !!!! This winter laser now only puts out ~55 mW....
Can I trade for a "summer" laser? I'll pay shipping and do a free review of it.
My old Sky200 is cookin' at 275 mW!!! That's with my fixes.

How about it Betty --- A trade for a Summer laser.

HMike

Yea, as I stated in the other thread, I have the old P532L-200S from Dr. Lava's GB back in the day.

I tested and graphed the output of mine, and with an IR filter the laser starts off <200mW, but as everything warms up it goes up to around ~250mW, and after about 60 seconds it shoots up to >300mW. It peaks at 315mW, and stays stable ~300mW.

These do NOT have IR filters, but rest assured the mW rating is real.

However, my experiences are with their old lasers, so I don't know how their new ones are. I hear they have made some drastic changes, and the heat control looks rather sexy.

Just one question, Im a legalfag, and I don't know much about how the system works, I though the FDA didn't certify any lasers over 5mW anymore? How do the FDA approvals on these 300mW's work?

Also, I hope you have fixed up your tail locks, because mine broke after about one month of use. The soldering was not done very well, and it just sort of came apart. What I am using atm is an AV cable I bought at an electronics store (for older camcorders without HDMI) and I just soldered the Video and White audio leads together.

The key mechanism was also a bit loose, but that was only after a good two months of constant turning.

Overall I was and still am quite satisfied with the build quality, and I see you have made some drastic design changes.

Regards,

Amk
