GB: 4$ heatsinks, 1.5$ aluminum modules AND more!

WTH! 0.o your better of partially refunding everyone then ordering new ones!

Isn't there another solution? I hate seeing a guy like you going in depths :(

I've already paid, so partially refunding will cause me even more debts...

Well I know why lots of people don't want to host GB's anymore... Next time I host a GB ill make sure I feel like wasting money, or if I win the lottery then I'll host another one :D

I already used a whole months paycheck + a bit more on the debts china & myself has put into with this GB...

Anyone willing to do the following can save Anthony $5 for shipping you a tiny piece of metal and save himself the trouble of worrying if he's got enough set screws.
Introducing: the Make yir-own set-screw hack - I just did this; it took me about five minutes:

Git yer donor bolt out of the 'ole box-o-random screws'n'bolts - here it is sitting snugly in a C6 HS, instead of the original hex set-screw (I'm pretty sure this one came from a desktop compter's case)
image.jpg

We all have our vices - cut a 4mm section off the bolt's tail - a couple of vigorous minutes with a hacksaw do the trick
image.jpg

Once you do that, put it back in the vice between two strips of wood to protect the threads
image.jpg

Give it a good one-two(!) across the top with the hacksaw and you're done!
Screws into the HS with a regular flat-heat screwdriver and holds a module like a champ
image.jpg

screws right out too, no problemo :D

Yarrr, ain't she a beaut... :eg:

Wow, not bad :gj:

Myself I always use thermal adhesive between module & heatsink but that can certainly work

Thermal adhesive is certainly better, but if you're planning a reversible build then it's set-screw + thermal grease of course.

p.s. I forgot to add this rant before my previous post:
/squeaky high pitched voice/ Stop being so overly nice to everyone at your own expense, you... you... Canadian!! /end squeaky high pitched voice/ Gahh...
Don't you get it?! We don't want you to go broke and give up on GBs! I think I speak for everyone when I say that we will be the most pleased if you can somehow break even on this one and then keep doing more GBs in the near future!

 LMAO im always gonna be to nice to other people here :)
I highly doubt I'll break even close to even, it's waaay out of reach, halfway through this GB I found a source for osram PL450 diodes at 34$ at a quantity of 10 and they were pressed in a module. I also had a GB planned for more modules & heatsinks.
But that won't happen anytime soon if it even happens at all. I try to help the community which I beleive I did, but I'm putting myself into serious trouble while at it because china decided to make the SH032's smaller & I underquoted a majority of the people on shipping.

After I make some money back eventually ( a few months at this rate ) MAYBE ( maybe means maybe ) I'll make the osram GB, but only at 10 people max.

I took too much losses so far and it's not even over yet...

I hope people enjoyed these great prices on machined goods, I'm done with machined goods, leave that too the forum machinists, these were CNC machined, not hand made, the quality WILL NOT be as good, and they were not as good,

:)

I didn't say don't be nice to people here. I mostly meant: don't fold over for the manufacturer; it should be they who pay for the shipping of the replacement screws, not you; and certainly not $120(!)
As I see it, the only extra expense you should bear is the 10 extra heatsinks because the manufacturer is not responsible for the originals not fitting; DX is, but that could not be foreseen. Even here, you're been REALLY super okay to everyone, taking responsibility for DX like this.

Ooh! PL450Bs under $40? I am definitely in for one of those!
If you don't intend to run that GB then you are cordially requested to reveal your source to a responsible forum member who will run it.

Yeah, if only that's all I had to pay for I'd be a happy person.

I dont know, the PL450 group buy seems pretty hard to mess up... I don't know if I will yet, likely not, of someone wants to organize it let me know, I'll gladly give you the source :)

Hey AnthoT no pressure or anything but ummm can i go in the group buy for a diode to please.
You know im good for it and i know you deffinately are:bowdown::bowdown:
Seriuosly guys i know it is not your fault ,but nor is it really AnthoT's so if you think you got an exceptional deal from this GB it would be good to help support him and offer to at least pay for your extra shipping or maybe even offer a little gift as well to help him not lose as much so he will continue with GB.
We need to support people like this to enable us all to get better prices.
+1 from me for outstanding customer service.
Dam you stupid "you must spread some rep"blah blah!!!
+1 when i can

i shouldn't have said i could've gotten osrams for <40$ :undecided:
now I got everyone all exited for nothing most likely :o

like I've said multiple times, I'm gonna finish this one because its not over till EVERYONE gets the stuff.

so no more GB's from me until everyone gets the stuff
no more GB's till i am in a better financial situation

i really appreciate certain peoples support & attempting to help out :) its really kind of your efforts to do so :thanks:
:thanks: everyone

Hope it helps. Osrams pl450B for < 40$ I'm in for 5... I was going to show a build I did tonight but it was kinda disapointing.. was supposed to be 35mw 685nm I'm getting 7-8mw... Eh I'll probably post it anyway's this is the 2nd of 6 diodes to post that kind of measurement. I killed 2 and gave 2 away and dont know what there measurements were. It's nice just not what I expected.. but hey 10$ for 3 diodes I was ok with that. The color is nice and I cant say you would not have to wear safty glasses arround it but I have seen better from the corner store for $2.50... It is the underlying components that make that build nice. I want to try to get some beam shots of it tonight. So close to far red it is hard to capture the beam.

Lol I won't be hosting the osram GB but I know someone who likely will :D

ill be down for osram single mode GB! hell we should make a "Donation to AnthoT for GB Excellence" to help him regather some funds :)

I love mine that works.. 400ma microboost.. best unblinding blue color..

I bet that was under though.. probably consuming more like 6-7V as per the spec sheet.

Yeah, it's partially my fault & chinas fault.

Because I designed the SH032 to fit a SH032 BUT dealextreme can change their stuff at any monent, which screwed me over... Badly too... That's the problem with heatsink GB's who knows, the C6 might change dimensions in a few years then these won't fit those... Just like what happened with the sh032's... I've gotten people's who fit, & people's who don't fit...

BUT when making GB for diodes, modules, lenses it's hard to have a situation like this one...

I just picked the wrong type of thing to host...
