@Mike, you are getting warmer, but it's not a measuring device.

Hint: less than 1,000 were produced total, and a crank turns the center shaft at the top.

It is not an Enigma machine, and isn't an encoder. But that's getting warmer.

And not a ballpoint pen.

Thats an interesting name for it... In dutch its name translate to a 'crownstone', i suppose from when they were still ceramic.

I see there are some going one, but here is one whenever things run dry:
