Game: Guess the mystery object !

As far as i remember from my (very very very) old experiments, it looks as a "galena" radio tuning assembly ..... i mean, the holder on the back have a galena (lead sulfide) crystal hooked in it, and the knob must be a "baffle" or thin steel wire with a fine point at the end ..... you had to search for sintony touching the galena crystal with the point in different position, til you find a spot that work as a diode, for detect and reveal the radio emission, and hear them directly in a high impedance headphone ..... good old times :D

I don't know how you call them in US, here is simply called "galena receiver" or "galena radio", the whole assembly, and "galena detector" that part alone.

It has a very common name in the likes of the US , UK , and i should imagine pretty much everywhere.

LOL, i hope you don't mean the "cat baffle" (or cat whisker or similar) that someone uses in some place for indicate it, don't you ? ..... right ? :p :D

Oh, yeah ? ..... then have fun finding the name of this item :eg:

same as your one, try to guess the exact name ..... also this one is easy, they made a lot of them in ..... er ..... in 1904 :p *insert BIG EVIL laugh here*

EDIT: image resized, sorry, not realized it was so big :p

Looks like some kind of weird music player that plays music with the dinging tones of a bell. Or a funky looking old fire alarm.

Ice cube tongs or egg cutter.

^^ haha , no to all.

Also , knowing what its used for, i'd estimate it to be about 16" long.

16" seems a little short for blacksmith tongs to get near a forge.
Also, all the blacksmith tongs I have used are hinged in the middle.
