Apparently melanin and blue lasers dont mix.

Melanin is what gives the skin color. So naturally the darker colors will absorb more of the wavelength than lighter colors.

My gut feeling, is that he knew that the laser was going to smoke/scar his hand. I think I see some other scars on his hand from a previous "torture" session. There might be the incentive of notoriety or the hope of a tidy profit, from lots of youtube views.

About the black/white issue: i suppose it does make a difference... i was quite amazed by the bit of smoke that came out before she started screaming. Perhaps its due to some melanin in the dead layer of skin, that is burned away before hitting the live layer and causing pain. White skin may be slightly more transparant to 445, hitting the live tissue immediately.
