Hey Tom,

Are the laws in Australia close to the same as the US? Can you recieve OEM parts with the intention of putting them in a device of your own design?

If so I can do the installation, alignment and have the driver all set up for white balanced output for $75. You would still "Design" it into an enclosure and add power / power switch. At that point you could do something like add Correction Amp IDLA imput or whatever you design so if the laws are the same it's still legal.

I'm in Australia and getting the full deal. OEM parts are fine to import, it's just laser pointers that are the problem.

You will be happy with your purchase! I just got my case and battery packs to build mine. As soon as Fire My Laser ships me the driver I will be lasing at the frequency of 405532658nm.

Question, what are the dimensions of this unit with everything in it? I'm wondering whether it'll fit in my scanner. Rough length, width, height would be good.

I left my calipers at work, but I'd say it's about 3 inches long with the green module installed, and a bit under 2 inches wide at its widest point.

I mesure 2.8" x 1.8" x 1".

Still waiting for the 50mw Greens and FireMyLaser Drivers but other than that they are comming along OK. I had a low efficiency 8x diode that cost me some $. I will probably have to mark up my loaded white fusion a bit to cover the risks involved and the time it realy takes to put them all together. With the Green DPSS modules there is a percentage of them that will not work well with modulation also. All this stacks up to either charging more to cover the negatives or reverting back to just supplying the hardware.

I think charging a little more is the better solutions because everyone will be sure to get a better quality product in the end. If everyone has to do it themselves they take risks with gettng a green that won't modulate well or a low efficiency diode not to mention something going wrong and burning a diode out.


I will post some new prices that are more realistic when it comes to covering my time and risks. for any deals already in the works I will of course honor the original price but I do have to make an increase if I want to continue offering these builds fully loaded and ready to go.

So basically, to say roughly, it's like, $500 plus shipping for one of these fully assembled? Because these look like something I would deffinately want to buy. I've been wanting to get a white laser for so long now, however the projects are so big and out of my league, that it almost seems impossible to me. This on the other hand, is something I would be glad to pay for.

I have a few questions...

What sort of duty cycle are expected from these modules? Like, how long can they run for without having to cool down?

How long would you expect to be producing these? Because I doubt I'd be able to get the money together for a few months, but if you'll still be making these by that time, then I'll deffinately start saving.
 
First off let me clear about what is to be expected for roughly $500. I would not call if fully assembled in that it doesn't include an enclosure, battery pack, power switch or a cooling fan. I am starting to gather those things in order to provide them as an extension to the kit. What it does include is the White Fusion Laser Kit loaded with lasers and setup with their drivers attached and adjusted for best output with an continuous duty cycle. The lasers are rotated for best output and the turning mirror is installed with the proper alignment.

The duty cycle is continuous. I have run them for an hour continuously with no problems. I don’t have any long term data for what the life span of the diodes should be but they are not going to overheat and die. I also set their output a bit on the conservative side in the hopes that they will not degrade too soon.

I may stop loading them myself but if I do I will refer others with the experience to do so. I travel a lot and have a demanding job so I can’t guarantee a predictable turnaround time that others may be able too.

I've been meaning to hook mine up, I have an 8x BR, a 100mW green, and a LOC red plugged in, but I haven't been able to calibrate it due to lack of drivers... The only electronics store in town is closed on weekends and working hours during the week, so there's never a time I can get there... I've given my boss money and a shopping list, but he's procrastinated for a week now... I think I'll end up skipping the perf board and just wiring things freehand... Eventually though, I'd like to drop in a PIC microcontroller or something to do some PWM goodness like FML's driver, but I've just been too busy these days... I even thought about getting an arduino so I have extra power to do things like controlling galvos and monitoring lipo batteries etc, but that's all up in the air until I at least make a board with 3 DDL style drivers on it.

As soon as I get around to populating it, I'll make a thread on my progress.
 
Oh and also, I've been contemplating some kind of upgrade... I was wondering if there's an easy way to use another sled or something to combine two LOC red diodes and attach them to the current housing, for people who need more red than a single LOC can provide... Any idea if that's possible?
