FS: Pocket Mini Build Kit! - Easy Assembly!

Hey Jay, you know how on DX you can buy the rubber tailcaps, and they have the little bump thing that sticks out on the inner part? Is that bump big enough to fit perfectly into the hole of the EzFocus Adapter? What do you use to keep dust out when using an EzFocus?

The little 'nub' that you cut off from the DX silicone tail cap is too large for the EzFocus aperture hole...

I have my personal Pocket Mini 8X with EzFocus adapter in a Mini Mag leather holster. But no dust cap on the laser.

One idea, would be to glue an AixiZ focus ring to the face of the adapter (with quality adhesive) so that you could just use the silicone tail cap as a dust cap.

I have not done this, but I would imagine it wouldn't look too bad. Similar to the look of most of our blu-ray and red builds...

ah too large.. that's far better than being too small, atleast you can cut it to size, much like I did here with my 10-LED + 10mW green laser (this can also be done with any other green laser, just cut the rubber "nub" to fit the hole):

Well now that I know your EzFocus's hole is small enough to fit one of these rubber caps, I may end up getting one eventually.. I'll wait till monday when I get my GGW, put my pocket mini together, and see how I like the focusing... from there I can decide if I think I'd need the adapter or not.

you should consider making your future EzFocus Adapters with an extra bit of metal sticking out, much like the glued on Aixiz focusing ring you were refering to, that way a tailcap can be added on.

I could just make it a custom order option, but it's easy to just glue on an AixiZ focus ring, which has a nice look to it...

I think that your idea with the custom trimmed aperture plug, is a good one too! :gj:

I want to build my first laser and I've decided to use:

-Pocket Mini Kit :)
-405nm 350-400mw diode

I've got some questions though...

1) If I opt. in for the "Hot" option do I still need a diode driver? or is this the diode driver?
3) What other parts do I need? (ex. Potentiometer, Voltage regulator, Resistor, etc...)

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) thank you in advance :D

The Pocket Mini is a great kit and build, but I would recommend starting with a PHR diode because they are only about $10 bucks...

Most people kill a couple of diodes in the process of learning to build.

Building is actually very easy to do, but it requires a 'learning curve' that everybody goes through before it becomes easy.

Yes, the 'Hot' option means that the FlexDrive is included. It is installed with lead wires ready for you, and current set. This is most of the work in the build.

All you will need is your diode pressed into an AixiZ module (you can buy them that way at Modwerx.com or HighTechDealZ.com.

Check with scopeguy20 as well if you want to move up to a GGW 6X in the $60 range.

Here's a post that shows what is needed on your part if you get the 'Hot' option:

Just send me a PM with any other questions! :)

ninjakaun, I am shipping your Pocket Mini kit today. (Thursday)

Sorry for the delay, the Post office was closed yesterday for Veteran's day.

'Hot' option set at 125mA's per your request! :)

It's the only one I had...

I think it was andy_con that sent it to me, but I'm not 100% sure. He used to make some nice warning labels. He does not make them any longer. (unless he started again)

Here's his site:

I got the Pocket mini with "HOT" option and had it all working in a few hours after I checked the mail, pretty nice for my first laser :D

Good deal! Thanks for posting back...

aynonemus serv3d, I sent your Pocket Mini kit with 'Hot' option, 405-G-1 glass lens mod, and other items today. (Wednesday)

Hope your build goes well! :)

Senkat, I'm sending your Pocket Mini kits today. (Friday)

Get will soon Greg!

Hey, Hopping for some advice. I got my LD today which is a GGW. I put my kit together, the thing will light up nice for a split second, then dim (very dim). I am using a new CR123 panasonic battery. I added a AA battery to the CR123 for testing it and the thing works no prob, was able to light a match with the AA in line. Any ideas on why I need to use the extra battery? isnt the Flexdrive supposed to do fine with a CR123 for this setup? -Mike

For sure I tested the driver and it was working perfectly with my blu-ray test load...

So I would think that your battery is bad. But don't use it in conjunction with a AA battery.

Just get another CR123. Do you have a DMM to test voltage from your battery?

The FlexDrive will work with as little as 2.5 volts supply. Or even less now with these V5 drivers.

Also, is the battery a primary or a rechargeable? Just curious. Because if it is a rechargeable, then you could put too much voltage to the driver by combining it with a 1.5 volt battery. (not good to mix batteries in either case though)
