I think it would be completely reasonable to do $100 for standard and then have "premium upgrade" for $125-$150 where you would be guaranteed a high efficiency diode above a certain output.  Maybe design a 5x AMC 7135 board for 1.75A to use on the high efficiency diodes with the premium option.
I think many members would gladly pay premium price if they were guaranteed a high efficiency diode that was doing, say >1.9W with a G1/G2 lens.
