I think it would be completely reasonable to do $100 for standard and then have "premium upgrade" for $125-$150 where you would be guaranteed a high efficiency diode above a certain output. Maybe design a 5x AMC 7135 board for 1.75A to use on the high efficiency diodes with the premium option.

I think many members would gladly pay premium price if they were guaranteed a high efficiency diode that was doing, say >1.9W with a G1/G2 lens.

One of the neat things about the V3 PCB is that it's actually designed for 5x AMC 7135 @ 1.75, but with one left off, it still works just fine at 1.4A.

The issue with 1.75A is that not every diode can do that successfully. That's the real killer that a lot of people don't factor in. When you buy something like a Jib 1.8A driver, you *might* kill the diode that you pair it with. That risk is on the hobbyist's end. But with an all-in-one module, that risk is on the seller's end. It substantially increases costs.

I feel like (and this is just anecdotal) most, if not nearly all diodes can survive 1.4A.

Don't be. I just really like the idea of a module approach. I prefer to normally buy complete lasers. This should make it easier for someone like me to build a working laser with a minimal amount of risk to the diode from my less then optimal soldering skills.

I'll keep an eye on this thread and if you do decide to start selling a V3 (even at a higher price), I'm still interested. Although my "laser budget" is tapped out again for this month.

Oh, I assumed you were reflow soldering, but if you are just soldering regularly then yeah it would be simple as just adding the fith chip.

I have a feeling you may end up going through more high efficiency ones than you have. You will probably have to raise prices or just have them as a limited item and only sell them again once you go through the whole batch of regular ones too.

I have a very steady hand, but SOT-89 is a very small package size to work with - so I may indeed go reflow with V3.

I would go with reflow soldering. Its so much easier than regular soldering. Have you ever reflow soldered before?

I've only used the toaster oven method (I'm not sure that counts).

Towards the end of the week, I'm going to list the V3, and take a different approach to selling them. The price will be higher. The modules will be individually LPMd. There will be one version to reduce complication. There may be the option of a higher powered module.

I've been eyeballing these for a while and i wonder if the driver of the new V3 will fit inside the (very popular) 14500 stainless C3 or the bigger cousin Aurora SH-032 18650
