FS: Green and Red HeNe Lasers

Dave, can I power those green HeNe's with any 12V input or they require the specific psu's you list?

The 12V brick-type PSU's require a 12V (@2A) INPUT.

The PSU PUTS OUT ~3,000V (DC) @~5mA to the tube

You can use any 2A - 12V PSU for the input, but the tube requires high voltage to work

The whole system looks like this:
wall plug --> 12V (2A) converter --> 3KV (5mA) PSU --> HeNe tube

You would be purchasing the PSU and HeNe tube from me.

Peace,
dave

Crap. Wish I'd seen this before I just bought a red HeNe and PSU off fleabay yesterday.

daguin I hope you don't mind the slight hijack but this should clear up the confusion about the 12v PSUs.

On the left is a 12V, 2A supply with 4 pin molex style connector. The 12V PSU is in the middle that steps up the 12v to between 2500 and 3200VDC @ 6.5ma. The head is obviously on the far right. ;) (that tube draws ~2800VDC)

The PSU came with a 4 pin connector like you see on PC mother boards so I built an adapter to power it. Not all PSU's will have a nice connector like that. My red's PSU had bare wires.

Got mine in the mail yesterday, Thanks Dave, that's my first gas and definitely not my last. Is it very hard to get the Al tube off of this? I have not seen the inside of a tube like this and would hate to damage the gas tube inside trying to remove it.

There is very little space between the glass tube and the aluminum housing.
Cutting through the housing is a very unforgiving process. :(

If you look at the outside of the laser, you will see a series of "spots" that are filed with black silicone. That black silicone is squeezed into the housing and holds the tube in place. Some people have removed the tube from the housing by using a long piece of something like piano wire to "cut" through those silicone spots :undecided:

I have done both techniques. I do not recommend either (especially with your only laser ;) )

I did this one a few years ago when GooeyGus and I were trying to figure out if the plasma in a green HeNe was different than the plasma in a red HeNe

The back half of the housing is still on the laser ;)

I've only come across a couple of these "in the wild."
As you can probably imagine, they don't last long on the market

 My work here is done ;)

Well Crap, I sent him a PM this morning with questions to see if he still had it. :(

Ya win some you lose some.

The last 1.5-2mW green HeNe is gone

I've still got a few 1-1.5mW Green HeNe's available

Peace,
dave

Got my Green HeNe in the mail today!
Very nice, long tube and nice PSU. It does have a bit of an artifact, but doesn't really bother me that much.
Great deal! Great shipping! and as always....Thanks Dave!:beer:

FYI Sam may still have 594 CoH HeNe yellow FS, but there are pricy- he does however offer a warranty should it go bad on you.

Good deals there Dave- HeNe green is a nice lime shade and divergence is un-real.
I love my 6mW yellow from Sam--

According to his classified page, he has at least one listed at $550. I think he used to have a couple more at a slightly lower price. (And mw)
