FS: Full Colour Driver Extension for the White Fusion kit

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Wow! This project is really coming along! Don't know if I want to take the $400 plunge into building this project though. The outcome would be amazing if I did though, Great work FireMyLaser!

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Yes, it cost a bit, but this is pretty much the most extreme form of a portable laser IMO.

Thanks.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

I agree. Rog really started something here.

By the way does the driver use a flux capacitor for use with time tunnels? j/k

Also, this thing need a name. I have been referring to it as FireMyLasers driver when talking to people on build options but a name would be good like "Fusion Driver" or "Fusion Controller "or <insert name here>. No naming gene remember :D

Thanks,

Ryan

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

^Any form of Fusion drive is out, at least from the point of view of anyone who remembers the FusionDrive fiasco of former member BlueFusion. IIRC, this was before rkcstr and the lavadrive, and this kid named BlueFusion had this driver design that he called the fusion drive, and took hundreds of orders, and had the boards printed. He then blew all the money on other stuff, and left everyone who had bought drivers from him high-and-dry when everyone discovered that it was actually some 14 year old or something like that in Australia who had bitten off WAY more than he could chew. I seem to remember it taking 9 months or more before several other people stepped in and finally half-way cleared the whole thing up.

So yeah, at least from the point of view for people who were around then, I'd avoid fusion driver or anything like that. And that's actually sad, because the name fits, but we can all blame BlueFusion for sullying that name

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Wow,

Thanks for the history. I wouldn't mind "White Fusion Driver" because it is designed specifically to fit with the kit but I wouldn't want people to think it was the only option for the kit or vice versa for the driver. At least till it can be tried and tested with some ilda software that supports ttl devices. If that works well then there really isn’t any other driver you would ever want to use unless you were going for size which isn’t worth the trade IMO.

Thanks,

Ryan

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Hi. Let me know when you have an Idea on when ready. I am trying to develop my own ILDA projector. Thanks John

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Hopefully in a couple of weeks. I hope I'm not teasing everyone :p
John, these drivers are not compatible to ILDA, you should look into the flexmod drivers.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

ill take one for sure :)

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Spaghetti supports TTL. Even though it says comming soon on there web page the copy of it that I have shows it in the laser output settings. FML do you see any aperent dangers in a second input from a DAC? Maybe they would both need to go to an OR gates first.

Thanks,

Ryan

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

How does the dac put out the signal? If it is one pin out for red ttl, one pin for green ttl and one for blue ttl, and all of them puts out a positive signal, and there's a common GND pin for red, green and blue, it is actually very easy to modify this driver. If someone can confim this I can show how. It might just work.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

How about calling it the spectrum mixer?

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

are you going to post a schematic for this or is it a buy it only thing

Yes when it comes to my correction amp + sound card dac the signals are set pos by tweaking the pots for each channel. When it comes to laser signals you set it to be 0v to +5v modulation for most drivers. Yours would be no different. there is a ground pin for each channel but I think they are all common. I will ring it out with my DMM in the morning to be sure.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Yes, all the ground output pins are common. Also, Spaghetti supports TTL output, but that simply means it just outputs 0 or 5V from the DAC, the DAC will still remain analog, it just won't have any other values between 0 and 5V.

However, unless you are making a small scanner, this wouldn't really be the best option, as you would (according to Jayrob) only get about 36mW of white. That is enough for a house party etc, but kind of useless for anything much bigger.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Right, spaghetti should change its output to a frequency modulation though rather than analog. The DAC being an analog device isn't going to matter as long as it can keep up which I would think it can.

Don’t you mean 358mw of White from Jayrob’s build balanced to a 6x BRD? No that’s still not "Big" but It's not just house party sized either.

If I had a meter I would measure my 8x BRD based build when it's back working and post how much more that bumps it up. I start with what should be 350mW from the BRD so if the percentages stay linear for the other lasers that would be about 718mW +-50mW of actual output. Now I’m not saying to go pro with something like this just because the output is higher. I’m not the one to ask as I have never done any shows for anyone but my friends for free. I’m sure the Pro’s use highly reliable equipment if they want to stay pro’s. Life tests and all that it takes to make a pro system take time and money. These are hobby projectors.

I will sacrifice a 6x build though and see if IgorT will test it to find out what power you can run this at if you want a continuous duty cycle. That info is worth knowing and he may have some other ideas on tests that would be valuable.

Thanks,

Ryan

Just to clarify, not sure where you got those numbers??

I built two different 7 color builds:

Low power: (50mW's of white)

High power: (358mW's of white) Using The White Fusion Kit...
