FS: Full Colour Driver Extension for the White Fusion kit

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

I'll Take one on the proto board, Just send me your paypal and I'll send the payment, $60 right?

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Cool guys.

I will be ordering some more parts now, I've already made three working drivers on proto-boards. Now if anyone wants one now it will be on a proto-board, ~35 x 68mm. If whenever I get them made on custom made PCBs they will be ~35 x 58mm, so they only change is in length.
Now, the main reason why I'm trying to have the boards custom made by a company is so I wont have to work myself to death by frustration, really the little difference in size don't matter much IMO, it is pretty small either way.

So, who'd like to get their drivers asap on a proto-board, because I can have that arranged now if you really want.

Will the size change for PCB help on the back end or will the PIC being on that part force it to stick out behind the kit the same amount no matter what.

The size as it is will still fit in a larger hand held enclosure with batteries and spiro so it's fine IMO. The smaller box in the picture will not work unless the perfect batteries can be found and a slim enough spiro made with mirrors to turn the corners. or the spiro built into the sled itself. If the PCB version could actualy help on the back side I already have some LiPo batteries that will work in that space.

Thanks,

Ryan

I believe the tracks can be optimized with some hard work, allowing the finished driver (manufactured) to be smaller sin size, but I'd have to have the PCB layout to do that.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

since the driver is so thin, but kinda long, and that PIC highlighted in blue looks to be in the way of valuable battery space, technicly, couldnt you slice that off, and just wire it on top of the board someplace out of the way?

What i mean is kind of make the board two-layered i guess, it will be thicker, but smaller over-all. now i dont know thw workings of the driver, but is that possible? ecspecially on protoboard, you could chop it up and just run small extension wires to the pic, or any other part you'd want relocatated. might look messy, but if all the wires went to their respective points, and the case still shuts, isnt that a possibility?

Or am i overlooking something?

I just felt i had a good idea in my head, to help make this driver better by "stacking" it.

Is this possible do you think?

Also stil waiting on an answere to my question earlier :D

Awsoem job! Best of luck with your success!

Stacking is a good idea but it can effect the price and ability to heat sink etc.

You would want to use pin headers like these and the female counterpart.

you could split it all into two parts. The TTL controled drivers. and a seperate PIC controller. That way people can do different things like hooking it up the TTL driver to a sound card DAC or go with the awsome built in controler.

Just my 2 cents.

I figured you could stack using rows of pins as well, but what i was getting at, is if he's building them on proto-board for now, he can manually stack the pic and other parts and just bridge the trace points using thin mod-chip wire. yes i know, it would look dirty, but it could REALLY save some space! any open area in the enclusure is a candidate to house a part or parts of the driver, to compact it as much as possible. (given your not putting a spyro in, but both would be SICK!, who knows, maybe stacking would create enough room for a spyro, who knows until we try!)

Also, could this possible be made one day using surface mount parts, and tiny pots like on RKCSTR drivers and whatnot, or would that just be way to expensive? i know it isnt feasable, given the kind of low number of people who will even take this project on, but is it possible? do we have access to the SM parts needed to make the same driver, just super surface mount style, like they took the LM317 and made a RKCSTR out of it using different parts though, but it's essentially the same thing i believe.

Just throwin that out there, figured it was worth mentioning. I wish i has a board to modify, and see just how small i can make it! but thats a project for another day, plus im sure FML has thought of all this already, im sure the design is at it's max potential already, FML does amazing work. I trust his judgment, and abilities, if this is what he created, im sure it was as small as it could possibly be given the tools/parts required.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Some crazy ideas there, tho I encourage it. I, personally, do not like having wires and jumpers allover the place, I want it to look good and work safe. Ones you get your driver you can modify it as much ans you want, I will even modify mine. I choose not to have those modifications in by default because it is not for everyone, and makes it look less clean. And yes I REALLY can't have it any smaller, and no good point to use SMD parts, it is allot of power going tru it as it is (tho nothing is over-driven ;)).

Yes $60, tho I do not take any payment till the driver is ready to ship. You can post which max currents you like for your R, G and V diodes from the list:

449mA
391mA
367mA
350mA
309mA
267mA
265mA
250mA
208mA
183mA
166mA
125mA
*I'll try to get something around 100mA too*
83mA

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

these drivers arent freely adjustable? using the pots? shouldnt you be able to turn it up 1mA or so at a time? or am i mis-understanding?

And i agree about not seling them stacked to everyone, i was just spurting an idea to allow us to add spyro's, more battery cappacity, or both :)

Just an idea though, shouldnt mess with success i always say, but if i get it and feel the need, i may modify it until you create some on printed boards, then i'll buy another one. but i guess it's so, the stacking and jumpering would work technicly :)

Okay sounds good, my red will be an LPC so I think 391mA will be good for it, my blu-ray is an 8x so I think 350mA will be good for it, I will have to check on the green module. Its a 100mW o-like green, I know the stock driver taking 640mA from the battery but I'm not sure how much is going to the diode, I will get back to you tonight. So you are just setting the max current and I will have the ability to further adjust the power for proper balance through the pots?

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

I will definitely build my first one with the driver as is. The size is still fine for what you can do.

Not realy woried about fitting in a spiro. those can be done to fit pretty easy if you turn the laser with mirrors before and after so you can set up the spiro to be project vertical in the front then turn horizontal again for final output.

I’m going also going to see if I can make a tiny spiro using tail motors from micro RC helicopters. Those babes are tiny so I’m hoping to be able to make it fit in the sled itself. Issue will be finding a light enough mirror that will be big enough to catch the ring off the first motor + mirror.

anyway those are some plans to tighten up a 2 motor spiro. Other you will have to wait and see when done. Seeing is believing or something like that.

Thanks,

Ryan

I discussed this with FML at length and yes you can still adjust the current for balance up to the max. The current he is asking for is the max safe current so you can tweak for balance without worry of burning out your diodes. For green I went with the max he has listed. It will balance somewhere lower than 450mA I'm sure.

OKay that's fine, go ahead and make mine with the currents listed in my previous post (red=391, blu-ray=350) and make my green the max current of 449.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

I'll take one with the above max's (Red = 391; Violet = 350; Green 449)

PM me when you are ready for payment (or before)

I'll wait on the second until we know if you are going to have it printed or stay proto

(Don't be hatin' just cause I'm lucky)

Peace,
dave

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Ok guys, I think I've found someone who will make the boards! :)

All of you who have made an order will automatically get upgraded to from the proto-board.

Size comparison and true shape with the White Fusion:

I'll keep you updated on how this goes.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

sounds good, I don't mind waiting.
