I am shipping your 405-G-1 glass lens today, but the springs go with the AixiZ modules... I could sell you an AixiZ module for $5 if you want.

But the spring is really not needed if you just wrap the lens threads with a couple of wraps of Teflon tape...

Thanks jay for the fast shipping as usual and for the flashpaper! cool stuff!...I cant wait to see the power increase once I get my driver from rkstr...ill post back for you:) hopefully the results will surprise me!
EDIT: jay my diode does not touch the lens... it gets stopped by the focus ring first:) but this is just a quick guess.. i have no caliper thing to test if it really touched i just eye balled it... if you could,please jay test it with the method you talked about in our conversation it would make alot of people( including me) feel alot better:D!

EDITEDIT: IF the lens did touch the diode...what would you think about adding a tiny o-ring around the diode in the aixis module to prevent the touch? Shouldnt have any affect at all on power i think since its around the diode... this is just if it does touch..:D

I finally got to play with my new lens and I'm pleased to say that the teflon-wrapped solution is the most "accurate" solution to date :yh:
However... the tape does sustain some damage and as I removed the lens the tape had a minor tear. When I put the lens back, it tends to "catch" at that spot now, but it's not a show-stopper, making Teflon my favorite solution so far. Btw, that some seriously thin Teflon tape... does it have a special name or "type"?

And as for the shortened spring - I use it in my "other" lens... ;)

Glad you like it! :) Teflon is definitely the best... I use both Teflon as well as a shortened spring. But just the Teflon only is fine as well.

It's just the cheap Teflon tape that you can buy at any auto parts or hardware store. You can get a whole roll of it for probably a dollar.






elitesniper, I have tested with my builds... I can tell you that with a PHR, or a GGW/6X, or a BDR/8X, that if the diode is only pressed flush with the back of the AixiZ module, the lens will not touch the diode.

But now not every body presses the diodes in the same. Some press the diodes all the way in, and I have not tested this. Also, other diodes, such as a long open can, or a long colsed can, are taller diodes.

So I think is is best that each person just check this measurement. I don't want to tell you that it is ok, and then for some reason it touches the diode. I say just turn the laser on and focus the lens...

Jay..ive added an oring in the module this should not affect performance at all right? and the ring stops and leaves only a tiny gap...is this good enough for blue ray diodes? I don't know if we need to even focus that far down on blue rays do we? I just added it for some safety:) (my driver hasn't arrived is why im asking the focusing question.

Well, as long as you can still get focus...

It looks like (from the size of the gap between the back of the focus ring, and the module), that you may not get focus. But you will certainly find out soon enough! (not a bad idea though)

Beware of teflon tape in the bottom of your AixiZ module

If you have a LOC LD be carefull getting any excess tape that lodges in the bottom of AixiZ module next to your diode. I learned the hardway cleaning out the bottom with a small toothpick. One wrong move across the filiment on the diode and its time for a new diode. That filiment is VERY FRAGILE

Ooo yeah, that would be a bummer...

Good warning. Normally, you find the Teflon tape in 1/2" rolls. That's the size I have anyway.

So it helps to cut the tape in half lengthwise with scissors. This is about the perfect width strip for wrapping the lens mod...

I got the lens! I just did some new measurements. Apparently I was letting some of the raw light escape the sensor. I now read 445mW w/o a lens and 420mW through the 405-G-1.

Another satisfied customer. ;)
