FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod - 31% Increase vs AixiZ!

this lens of crazy jay. still don't have all my parts yet for my 6X micro chrome build, so i thought "why wait?" and threw it in my PHR pocket mini. this thing is insane. my PHR even burns white plastic now instantly. cut through some electrical tape and even started melting the black coating on my exacto knife's metal body. i couldn't help but etch a bunch of stuff into my white surfaced desk. i cant even imagine what this lens will do in my 6X build.

More good feedback... great to see that! :thanks:

I know what you mean, I have them on two of my PHR builds too! You really have to be careful with reflections and stuff. Especially with the extra power...
Jay

yeah i know what you mean. even just shining the beam on the back of my hand un-focused burns. and when burning plastic i use my reddish pair of glasses that block a good amount of the light so i can just see the dot. not trying to burn my eyes out, then i cant see the beautiful beam, which btw you can see better at night with this lens on over using the aixiz acrylic.

David and Goliath...

Now that I have two proper BRs I was finally able to view both the 405-G-1 and standard acrylic AixiZ side by side. This proves that the 405-G-1 doesn't add anything new to the so-called diode "splash", but simply magnifies it. No one saw it before because no one took the time to look...

(... 'cause they were too busy burning stuff, as it should be :D)

(L) IgorT 6X @199mW w/AixiZ acryllic and (R) Daguin 6X w/405-G-1 @236mW

We (bob_boyce and I) are toying with a FAC to correct the output of the bluray BEFORE the lens so that you won't see splatter like this. Now it must be stated that it may or may not work and if it does, is NOT going to be something for the initiates to do as it involves mounting the FAC ON the diode. If it's successful though, you will see a nice round beam and dot instead of all the splatter.

all that splatter is the main reason I won't use this lens though. I DO like the extra power, but not at the sake of a pretty dot.

Now let me state that just cause I don't like the splatter does not mean that this isn't a great lens and Jay does an awesome job.

That sure sounds interesting Ken, especially if using a fast axis collimation optic will not take away any power!

Please keep us posted on that! :)

Kenom;

There is an optical problem with trying to use the FAC lens.

It will interfere with focusing of any short WL aspheric lens (2mm FL).

A better solution would be a short FL aspheric lens,
with a stainless aperture for eliminating splash.

This was my quote from 4/12/09:
The only way to insure absolutely 'no splash' ...
is to use a thin stainless aperture, similar to the Aixiz plastic lens.

Jayrob, you never cease to amaze me. Another quality product that performs as promised.

I brught my laser to work in hopes of getting my 405-G-1 lens. I received the mail, and there it was, the golden envelope containg the violet-passing goodness inside. During lunch, I hastily swap out the old Aixiz acrylic with the 405-G-1.

I first notice a tighter beam, great for beam shots and wow factor. It seems brighter overall, but looks can be deceiving. I rush home and break out the Kenometer.

The laser originally put out 166mW. Now it pushes out 215mW, a 49mW increase! The 29.5% increase in power corroborates nicely with the claimed 26-28% increase in power these lenses provide. (It may also indicate a small deterioration of the lens as Daguin originally set the laser to output 170mW).

The only trouble I've had is installing the E-Z Focus Ring (tm). The fit seems too snug; I stopped trying to fit it for fear of breaking the lens assembly. I still can focus the laser, I simply turn it off to focus.

The bottom line - this lens delivers. All my future blu-ray builds will need this wonderful lens. I may even get one for my existing Jayrob Pocket Mini with the SF-AD112 diode. Why hold that little diode back?

Glad you like the lens!

:thanks: for posting back...

About the Kryton EzFocus Adapter. It is a tight fit, and should be installed on the lens before you put it into your Kryton. You have to make sure that the AixiZ focus ring is even all the way around.

But first, moisten the AixiZ focus ring around the front corner with the tip of your finger. We're talking about a very small amount of moisture. Not enough to get on the lens or in the assembly. Just so that the o-ring will 'slip' on easier.

They it will press in evenly with your two thumbs.

Better a tight fit...

Let me know how it goes! :)
