FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod - 31% Increase vs AixiZ!

A good way to test how much is being blocked/reflected back is to make a mod for your lens and just do some power comparison measurements.   If the % of loss is very low (and not enough power to do any real damage to the diode/back of the nut) and it gets rid of the splash...how can you lose?  :)
It would probably be best to put the aperture stop not between the LD and lens (as with the standard Aixiz) but in front of the lens. That way, the diameter would be greater, so it would be easier to handle (alignment) and there would be less chance for degradation of divergence; also it would be easy to swap stops with different diameters. You might even have one that's not like a flat washer, but conical (with the tip cut off), so any reflection would be to the sides of the module instead of back towards the diode.

AdamR, I will be shipping your 405-G-1 glass lens modifications tomorrow as well. (Monday)

Thanks!

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

i just finished a mod with the catmandoo direct diode heatsink and a 803T set at 205 mA with the Jayrob Lens.
Incredible output !
hope to play with him some days before it died ;)

Glad you like it! :)

Update: Price drop!

Just to let everybody know...

I have just lowered the price on my 405-G-1 glass lens modification as well as my Meredith Glass fit for AixiZ lens modification! 8-)

Nothing will change about my method. Except that my custom spacer/retainer will be machined from brass for the 405-G-1 mods. (Still aluminum for the Meredith mod)

New prices: (complete assembly with focus ring, ready to install)
405-G-1 glass lens mod - $55 (bare lenses - $30)
Meredith glass fit for AixiZ - $57
Plus $3 dollars shipping...

Sorry to all who previously ordered, but I just bought new stock, and I got a break on quantity. ($5 dollars less per lens on the 405-G-1. And $3 dollars per lens on the Meredith)

This break is handed down to you! :)

Argh! I knew I should have waited till my heatsink was made... I was trying to pre-empt the case where I impatiently put it all together and wish I had a better lense.

Still looking forward to receiving it.

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Spoz, yours shipped on Thu., 4/16...

I believe it would normally be 7 to 10 business days from me to you with First Class International.

I actually have 5 more lenses that I paid the higher price for, but decided to drop the price now, and not worry about those 5.

Anyway, hopefully you receive yours this week!

Let me know! :)

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

will this lens drop right into mohrenberg's 200mw blue ray coleman laser, or do i have to ask him?

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Yes, my 405-G-1 glass lens modification is fit into a modified AixiZ glass lens nut...

It will fit into any build using the AixiZ module. I am not positive about the Sure module. I imagine it should work in the Sure module as well. Unless the threads on the inside of the module do not go all the way to the bottom of the inside area. If the threads go all the way down inside the module, it will work just fine! :)

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Thanks for posting back with pictures! :)

I have not tried the 'so called' dilda, but I'm guessing that yours is a modified dilda with an AixiZ module correct? Or does the stock dilda fit an AixiZ lens?

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

It's all stock jay, (i used the 3.0v Cr2's)  and  i see  a diffrences. --
I doin't have a LPM so i can't confer.
I would say im good at 230mw

But, i'll bet you $10 buck's im wrong?

Ok bad joke.

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

:)

Well I just learned that this lens mod for Meredith fits right into a 'dilda' laser...

I did not know this, because I have never tried a dilda laser.

But it's good to know, because I know that they are popular. Thanks for that information!
Jay

P.S. I have to show this cool flash paper that Chuck showed. I posted his video elsewhere, but since he is using my 405-G-1 glass lens mod, I wanted to post it here... (I asked him first)

Chuck bought a 405-G-1 glass lens from me and built it into a PHR Phaser style build. This video shows his PHR instantly burning white 'flash' paper! The flash paper is really cool stuff! I bought some and it is awesome, just like this video: 8-)

Flash paper: http://www.magical-tricks.com/flashpaper.htm

I bought the 2" X 3" sheets, and all you need is to tear a very small piece (like a 1" X 1" square), and roll it into a ball. If your dot is focused properly, it will 'flash' instantly, like in the video! :D

For more information on his build, here's Chuck's thread: http://laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showthread.php?t=20031

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

OK, I give in, I need to order a couple of your lens-kits, one for the Merideth-Aixiz coated for red and one ,"405G-1". How do I go about ordering?

Also, these are intended for "burners" but I will be making a scanner too. How do you think these would look, with the minor "beam-artifacts" that have been observed when scanning images?

Great work man!
DH

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Good deal...

About the scanner question, I'm afraid I have not tried these lens modifications in a scanner, but I just tried pointing a 405-G-1 build through one of my mini spirographs and it looked excellent! :)

My honest opinion, is that you will not notice any of the 'splash' that has been discussed in a scanner. I could be wrong. But just based on what I just saw in a spiro, and just reasoning on the fact that the mirrors are turning.

I would say that you will only notice the 'splash' if the dot is perfectly still. One thing to point out, is that the focus is very touchy. Both of the above mentioned lenses are 'short focus' in design. For me, it seems like a best visual dot at around 25 or 30', is the best for general pointing. And obviously for burning, you would have to focus the pin point for what ever distance you want to burn at...

Sending PM...
Jay
