In red it runs about 500ma in blue it's the 191ma on one of Jeff's testloads. I wonder if I bridged the resistor pads with solder not too sure what that would do..
 





I take it you want to run a PHR.?

Iam Not saying this 100% because I dont Know what Testload you have. But His Blue Mode might be to low of a Load and your getting the higher reading for 405nm at this specific currant for this diode. Just like you are in Red. That Shows that it could possible be you are Just over the voltage of the diode a little.

Put a Load using 6 diodes and that should solve your issue. If you are already using 6 diodes then Not Sure.

All Boost driver do this Unless they are Buck/Boost then it really does not matter what the load it.

yep. it's on 6 diodes. and yep 805T I'm going to make another board later with a 1.8ohm and see where that gets me. I want to try out the new inductor on the round boards anyway...
 
well did another with a 1.8ohm resistor. With this I am getting 180ma on a 4.02v 18650 so I started playing arround with different batteries and found a 14500 that was 3.6V was outputing 112ma. The 14500 full charged to 4v is outputing 178ma The 3V non rechargeable li ion will give me 112ma. So I'm not sure what is happening here... seems strange to me that the current out would be that much different with different Vin's concidering the driver is boosting the voltage in either case.

I think I know what is happening. Just like lazeerer said. The diodes on your test load even 6 are using less voltage than the input voltage. That can happen with light loads (low currents) I have confirmed this. So I made myself a 14 diode testload. I need to use like 8 diodes or more or somewhere around there for a higher voltage low current testing.

can you try and hook up some additional diodes to the test load and take the reading again. I pretty much think this is the problem as you have said that a not fully charged battery will give you the exact output current.

EDIT you can easily confirm that the output voltage is lower by instead of reading current at the resistor you read the voltage across the output leads from the driver to the test load. :beer:

Hrm I would need to mod this test load then I think I saw another one with jumpers somewhere. I would like to build it.. had 10 diodes or something silly! No big deal I LED's another one... Dont think I will try using these in this fassion anymore.. lol.. I know they work for the S06J but I dont know about these small currents.. maybe it just wasnt designed to do them. I still have the low current drivers so I will get back to testing them another time. no more 405nm diodes to kill... :yabbmad:

Hrm actually I dont know about the S06J... Had to double check on that and I actually have a mogasm linear in that. Thaught I put in a boost..

turns out half my boards didnt work because those caps were bridged. The get hot really quickly then the current drops really fast.
 
I didn't do it on purpose! Its so hard no to put too much solder. I need to buy a smaller syringe tip.


AAhh, I thought you were asking if you should do that like change the design or something I didn't realise it was the paste that got them bridged.

you could easily fixed the bridge, with some clear solder paste (not real solder) and a clean tip soldering iron. Or if the paste is too much. Use some copper wires and soldering iron to take off the excess solder from the components and unbridge them.

Is there anything special about the mosfet used in this design?
 
Ben Boost and 12x diodes

I know they work for the S06J

Not to bash on Benmw, but everyone using the Ben Boost should read entirely through this thread --> http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/pesky-benboost-drivers-74518.html

The Ben Boost might not be a suitable driver for the sensitive 12x diodes, especially at enthusiastic currents. Apparently, extra capacitance between the Diode Positive and Diode Negative might fix this issue. But just be aware, this could be the very reason why many of us have mysteriously blown our 12x diodes even at reasonable currents of 450-500mA.
