focusing to infinity

try focus it by the beam, see the beam in the dark, you need to look at the end of the beam and try to make it smaller with the focus ring.. I do it all the time with my dilda [DX200 red]

If you are still having troubles even with all the above ideas, Make sure that your diode is fitted in the module below the surface. if it is surface flush you might run into problems with alignment and other small things.

You use a distance of a few dozen meters as a good approximation.
