Focalprice Goggle test






I'm not very impressed with these FocalPrice goggles.
I ordered them because of some positive reviews here, but compared to my Dragonlasers goggles, I have a bad feeling. With the Focalprice, I can clearly see a green spot on a white wall from my RPL 450, while there is only a dim orange colored spot with the Dragon goggles.
If there is some green only in the diffuse reflected spot on the wall, I don't want to imagine what happens, if a direct reflection hits your eye...
It's no good idea to save on the savety ... you only have two eyes.
 
donprado is right, you can't vouch on $10 goggles for your eyes: they are not worth it! you only have TWO eyes.. no one can sell you new ones..
BUT I disagree by the concerning.. some focal prices goggles are extremely good, as high as OD4, as pointed by some LPMs. It is just luck that makes you get a good or a bad goggle.
 
Probably there are very good goggles from FocalPrice (that's why there are good reviews around), BUT if I'm not sure what quality I get, I can't trust this glasses anymore!!! Especially when your eyes are in danger...
 
I bought mine to a low powered green I had (~50mW) but the goggles are so strong I can't even see the dot 1m away from me. It appears as a oval, VERY, VERY small green dot. :P
Same for blue. I would not recommend they, or people should at least buy the ones from radiant electronics or O-like.
 
You are right - there are other companies for good goggles. It's worth every $!
Another good choice are goggles from DragonLasers: Dragon goggles
for 25$.
 
Those plastic (dark red, NOT light orange type) from FP and similar are good for like 150 or 200 mW units max, for general protection use, assuming the laser IS IR filtered (cause they DON'T block IR), and not pointed intentionally at eyes through the goggles (as any safety goggles, for random / accidental reflex during alignments or experiments, and similars).

For more powers, or for complete protection against both the green and IR component, you may need some more professional product, also if they cost a lot more.

looking around 0:06, and from 1:20 and over, you can clearly see that these ones left pass a lot of green (worse than FP ones, around 1:55 you can clearly see the beam, not just the dot, through them), and are still sold as "laser safety goggles" :p :D

Those are just safety goggles for grinders / lathes :p :D
 
Donprado aside, most people who are buying these $5 red laser enhancement goggles are probably also those who buy the "150mW" green laser pointers that have terrible IR filtering, if any at all. Those lovely green lasers will dump out lots of IR, and coupled with pupil dilation from the low VLT of the enhancement goggle and the good job they do at filtering the green out (almost TOO good), it lets in even more IR.

The only green lasers that I've tested that are well IR filtered are CNI's laser modules. Even "5mW" green lasers output more IR than those. It's not like I'd be buying CNI lasers my whole life, so I bought some more protective goggles instead. It certainly would be nice if they could be offered at lower prices, but they're meant for the people who really should be owning higher powered lasers (and I am not one either!).
