Flat Plastic Diodes for Testing

Ok. What would the price difference for a package deal be? i.e. 2 high-power br lenses and a couple 4 modules?

Also; what does open back lens mean?

Definitively not friends. They make it up to about knee-high on the evolutionary ladder......but hey, doesn't everybody know atleast 1?

The "open back" or "open aperture" lens assembly would be like the lens assembly pictured at left without the silver aperture...

It has the entire lens aperture for gathering the Red laser radiation.

It will produce a few percent more power from a Red open can diode,
since all of the laser beam is captured by the lens.

Is that the Red or the IR ?

I found a new 16X Red laser type yesterday:

It only has 12 pins to figure out (marked in photo).
It was from an AOpen 16X drive.
It had a threshold of 50ma and very good power.
Unfortunately, it died during the power testing,
before I got an accurate power reading.

Edit: It is actually a Sharp laser diode.

Larry,

Did you ever do anymore testing on this particular diode, or was your preliminary test not promising enough?
 
That looks like a laser bar rather than a single junction diode.

They're single junction diodes. I have a few of these myself from aopen drives. all the extra pins come from the fact that these have the photoreceptors for the pickups integrated in the same housing as the diode. In most other sleds the pickups are separate from the diodes.. I'm really glad this packaging didn't catch on since I haven't seen them in anything other than a few types of aopen drives. People think the flat plastic diodes are hard to mount heh.. They should try these. :thinking:

Hi Larry,

I have had one of these flat plastic diodes, exactly as in your picture.
I was very impressed with it as It had an EXCELLENT beam.
Without knowing anything about it, I never took it above 250mA but I am certain it could take much much more.

I was not going to post here until I had a LPM and had done some testing, but I have killed the poor thing with a zap of static in the meantime. :(

It was pulled from a Toshiba SH-S202J 20x DVD burner.
I am realy impressed with the beam on this diode and I want another!
So keeping an eye out on ebay for another 202 going cheap.

Larry since the thread has been resurrected are You still looking for these? I have one that contains both the Red & IR (4 pin) from a 12x, and both diodes are working great inside.
