Flat Plastic Diodes for Testing

I am looking for some flat plastic Red diodes from DVD burner sleds for some power testing.

If anybody has some, I would be willing to trade for lenses, #18650 batteries or Axiz modules.

I only need flat diodes from 22X or higher DVD sleds.

Any mfg. numbers on them would also be helpful.

Actually I have one from an 8x sled that needs to yet be extracted. I have to send it to dave to pull them both out for me.

Edit: I could ask Dave to send it to you once he gets it

Crazy Jay;

I have traded a #18650 battery for one from another LPF member.

I could use another if you don't have plans for it.

Currently the whole sled is on its way to Daguin. You have my permission to contact Daguin for the red diode. See if he would extract it for you and you pay the shipping. Only the actual diode itself. Let me know what you think

What kind of lens would you give for trading btw?

I don't need it extracted from the sled.

I have lots of glass lenses to trade.

Well I'm keeping the sled and everything to it. If you want the red diode in there it will have to be extracted.

Flaminpyro;

Thanks for sending the flat diode.

I am hopeful on the testing for this diode.

I got your diode extractor yesterday.

It is a must-have tool for Axiz module work.

Thanks;

That is what I expect them to look like. I have not seen them yet.

Which drive did that diode come out of ?

I am looking for Red flat diodes out of 8X LG drives manufactured in 2009.

I have one like these, I dont remember from which sled is it, I throw many empty (from everything) sleds a while ago, but I kept the diode.
The diode still in heatsink with pcb removed. I am not sure that the diode is working, I can give it to you w/o change.
PM me if you interested.

This is a photo of the actual diode I am looking to test:

Larry,
Just an FYI, I did manage to extract one of those and I'm testing with it now, I only have one left so I'm not sure what the safe voltage and amperage is. So far I have it at 2.8 and 500ma for a duty cycle of 30 seconds. I'm afraid to ramp it any higher since I only have this one left. These diodes apparently also have the IR as well as the red in one unit. no photo diode.
At those settings it's not even producing enough power to darken thermal paper though when collimated with a axis acrylic or red ar lens from modwerx.
I'm probably going to end up killing it though.

Thought I'd report my findings on attempting to kill it. I'm guessing mine is indestructable. I have it at 3.1V and as high as 375ma, I really wish i had an LP meter, but according to the bench supply, the draw on it was almost a full watt. So I pumped it up to 400ma and the laser went dim after about 2 seconds at that level, I thought it was dead, so I dropped it down to 325ma and it lit back up with no problem. It just doesn't seem to have any burning power at all...

I have found the same diode in a 22x sony dvd burner, I thought it was just the IR and I could not find any other diode in the sled. Well, the IR is actually stronger then the 5.6mm IR, as I have run it at 370-380 ma 2.1 v for several minutes and it's still working. It burns nicely and it lights matches instantly. The red didn't seem to have any power to it. Is there a trick to it?

LuxIgnis;

You may have them reversed.

Reds should have more voltage @ any given current than IR diodes.

Most IR's are ~1.7 VDC @ 100ma.

Red's are ~2.4 VDC @ 100ma or ~3 VDC @ 400ma or so.
