First laser!

Hello all I am new to the forum and lasers in general. I have always been interested but I finnally bought a laser. I'll link it below but sadly I went the wrong rout with it and wanted to get a high powered laser and of course I found ebay. Its labeled online as a 1w Blue 450nm laser but on the laser it says 405nm and <20mw. I wanted to see what you guys think of it and if it was a huge rip off. On the other hand the build is really nice on the laser and if anything I may be able to use it just with another diode. Not a huge rip off. It's not 1W if it's a 405nm.
No idea if it's less than 20mw and just labeled because of customs.
What you received and what you ordered is confusing..Is the beam more blue than purple?
Is it visible at all? 405 will not be visible even in a dim or dark room. Need some help from your side..Does it burn well or very little? "Which I hope you have safety glasses"! Does it take 1 battery or 2? Product description says 450nm and 2 battery's but a working voltage of 3.7 so don't use 2 as this add is all over the place with inconsitency's??
It's a cheapie mass produced China unit and changing out a diode isn't really worth the time and effort as there is just so much glue in these. But doesn't mean you can't enjoy it as a first time laser..

That "405nm" claim in the listing is a typo. If you scroll down to the specs you'll see it is a 450nm laser. That is possibly a 1 watt laser, but the price seems a bit low. Also, welcome to the LPF.

your first buys should have been from trusted members-
almost anything you seek-- some member may have and want/need to sell- and we show the bad members the door. ( so a member needs to have been here some time- have good posts-etc-otherwise you are buying from a stranger-- look at their rep score-- w/o looking I say that is NOT a 405nm laser-but a cheap 450-460 blue-- with a diode worth < $15- tops-
and a driver can be had for <$10- fashlight w/ heatsink and you are close to making a 1W Blue for very little and you get satisfaction from making your own.

lots of great advice-- above all -- protect the eyes (of all present) keep your lasers safely locked up if the kiddos are around-- never hand it over to anyone w/o proper knowledge and eye protection.

The 405 is especially dangerous-- as they are not bright-yet burn faster than any other wavelength mW for mW... as said the beam only shows w/ fog or smoke-- whereas the green lasers show the line/beam best of all--

a 5mW is 'brighter' than 100 mW of 405. welcome and enjoy safely at ALL times.. hak in Tx

Thank you for all the replies guys! I ordered some gogles and wont be playing with it until I get them in. I did take some pictures of the laser and the beam etc if I can add them on here some how. It does burn things not too bad but I dont really have any points of reference to compare with. I can see the beam without smoke but I cannot see it crazy good.

Probably is a 405nm. The host seemed to come apart but how much glue is in there holding the driver and sink. Pic's seem to show the beam even though the eye can't see it though. If you can show a pic of the front with the diode exposed we can see if its a 3.8mm diode..

Is this what you are wanting? Also not a ton of glue on the inside. Some to connect the battery area and that's about all
