Divergence, by the way, is excellent - probably around 1mRad. That said, I am pretty sure it stays in TEM00, but I can't be certain; the unit is not focusable.

EDIT: Wow, just tried using a loupe and some black plastic... I got a 589nm that will BURN things. It's set to infinity, so it's not going to burn well there, but when it's focused... it'll burn!

I was gonna say you could use a regular aixis lens to defocus the beam and check if it ever mode hops, but you've probably already figured that out with the loupe. ;)

I second the request for more beamshots! Take some in the night sky!
 





That's the goal tonight ;) Going to see if my girlfriend (who thinks lasers are awesome, by the way!) wants to drive me up to the lake (I don't has a car :( ) later so I can take some beamshots. Then spend the rest of the night stargazing.

I really wanted to Face-Palm you for that. Come on. It's an exotic DPSS... burning? ;) Though I guess at 100mW peak, it's a legitimate question to ask.

I'll note that Wolfman did a bit better than I did here. His peaks about 10mW higher than mine. His is less stable, but it's still "less stable" in a range a bit above my stable range. I forget what mine hits - I think it hits 70mW. Wolfman, do you remember what I said mine hit?

I got mine with some "features" that work for me here in Canada, but wouldn't have been great for Wolfman in the US. Namely, I had the 5 second delay removed, and had the tailcap replaced with a version lacking a key or safety interlock.

Anyway, I actually did tell her how much it cost and she was okay with it! She's alright with me spending large sums of cash on lasers, which is awesome :D

Anyway, yeah, it *does* have burning capabilities, surprisingly! It can burn when focused with a loupe! It doesn't burn amazingly, but it *does* burn and it *would* light a match!

I convinced her to take me to the lake later tonight so we could get some shots... so we're good to go! I'll have some for you guys later :D

What camera do you use? Those beamshots are amazing.

But I spent all the ring money on this laser! But not really.

So got some more beamshots... they aren't the best, but I promised them!

Man really peaked at 100mW? :eek:

Yellow lasers are worth the money. Seriously I love them.
 
If I am going to make a video it will have to wait till next week because my camera is not on campus. Good news is though that I have some better beamshots from my room because the smoke from solder made the beam amazing so I will post those later.
 
A 100mw... 589!!!!!!!!! I want it now! :drool: Can I borrow it :D I promise to give it back. maybe :D
