I'm really surprised that wall of sand filled bags held.

Granted I've never seen a grenade explosion personally, kind of figured it would at least knock the bags over.

Hopefully that was just a training grenade though.

I know about as much as you, but I think they're designed to spray shrapnel... like an omnidirectional shotgun. The charge doesn't need to be particularly large for that.

You may be right, still I think in that case a training grenade was used.

Here's another one;

There are different kinds of grenades
Some spread shrapnel
Some just produce a concussion wave
Others just produce lots of noise and light
etc.

In any event, a sand bag, especially a stack of sand bags, can absorb A LOT of shock

Also, although it isn't really apparent from the perspective of the camera, those sand bags are NOT just stacked up "free-standing"
They are stacked against a wall cut into the side of the "hill"
