**F/S**BR/RED with driver in Aixiz Module $40

BluRay said:
Sorry guys, I've posted the up an update to the reason why i havent been on for the past 3 days, due to computer problems.

To others who have got their modules, GREAT and thanks for the kind words.

DiaChi is that laser from the module i sent you?? its very nicely built.

StrongBOW you can put it in anything that will fit, but then theres alot to consider as to what driver you want to have and what battery your host will use etc etc and you need a Heatsink for it to hold the module in place and to cool the module.

Milantheone, i honestly cant tell you cause i dont know how you connected everything up, Did you check if the wires are the right side. How many volts did you put into the driver. It should be no more then 5.5V. But there could be alot of things,  Just let me know how its going and if its okay. Maybe you can undo the soldering on the diode and hook up an LED to the driver and see if it works. But i think you might of put too much power into the driver.

Tommy

well i described everything here   http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1231978490/0#0

i used 3xAAA regular, not rechargable batts... i dnot think it was more than 5.5V... everything was ok till it blinked..

I received my blu ray today. Just wanted to say thank you. This was my first purchase on the forums so I was a little skeptical but you sure took away any doubts I had about ordering on here.

The laser is friggin sweet :) and honestly I am almost afraid to use it for fear of burning it out :(

I especially like how you shipped it with the extra stuff, the optics and the sticker. This was VERY worth the money I paid. Thank you again for such a great deal.

Also one quick question. Must the heatsink be made of aluminum? At the local hardware store I found something that will fit and has a screw to tighten it around the module But it is def not made of aluminum.

Oh and what is the best form of eye protection from a blu ray laser?

Thanks again.

What is it, it doesn't need to be aluminium, but if it's something like lead, then that's useless.

bluray laser protection would be good ( 405nm at OD3+ ) green laser safety goggles also work.

Tommy, i might need to buy two 260mW 20x reds some time in the near future, I'll pm you when the time is right  ;)

I dont have anything specific in my mind for a heatsink, and no, i wouldnt have tried to use lead. but thanks for the tip.

I had a pc heatsink I was going to use, shape it and drill the center out but the bit i used was too big, I dont have the right size for a press fit.

I do have another heat sink but the noise created trying to cut it is unacceptable by my room mates..... :(

My only options now are to buy a piece i saw at the hardware store, its just the right size to go around the aixiz module and it has a screw to tighten it on. I just dont have any money.....bank fees killed me today and i lost most of my paycheck to the bank. the only thing good that happened today was getting my laser.

Anyway my other option is an OLD amd athlon cpu :) its a cartridge cpu and has aluminum fins on a slab of thick aluminum. I can literally cut the fins off with scissors. I was thingking about fashioning a heatsink by cutting round sheets of aluminum and making smaller spacers to put in between the larger fins that will be sized to the inner diameter of my dorcy metal gear.

I was going to have someone do all this work for me but I am flat broke and cant even afford the ultra fire batteries to power the laser. So if anyone on here has some AAA 3.6v batteries and a charger for sale let me know. I need 3 batteries.

And this will sound awfully noobish but.......will sunglasses help to protect my eyes from the bluray laser? I only ask because sunglasses have uv protection and the bluray is really close to uv right?

Im not trying to sound stupid but I also dont have money for expensive goggle.

Here's a trick I learned - most tractor/lawn and garden supply shops (at least those here in the midwest) carry these steel bushings designed to be used as moveable shaft spacers... They are available in US sizes which are a little sloppy of a fit but also if you look they can be had in 12mm ID which is an east press for the module (use a little thermal grease to facilitate the heat conduct and make it easier to fit) - they also as a bonus have a retaining screw so at 2pcs for $3.29US, they're a great "down and dirty" heatsink...

I have a buddy turn these down at his machine shop to retrofit blu-ray modules into our scanner systems for the shows, the scanners we use for the upgrades have 23mmID mounts for the red lasers/heatsinks they are built with, so he just turns them down to 23mm and it makes a great spacer/heatsink for WAY less than having something custom machined!

DNMEBOY i could make u a heatsink to fit a full axiz modual for $10.00 :) and the set screw will hold it in place  8-)

thanks brewcitymusic,

that isa almost like what I saw at the hardware store in my town. The onlky thing different is the means to tighten it.

I actually just got done with my laser for now, until i have the money to do what I want it is now and airsoft pistol laser. Its kinda neat.
I made some aluminum fins for heatsinks just so i can use it a bit here and there, they get warm so I assume they are doing the job right.

Brewcitymusic, thanks for sharing that with ll of us. Thats a really good idea. Is there a part number to it, or are they just known as Bushings for lawnmowers?

Jake21 also has a alternative for you DMNEBOY, so there you go, But i think BCM got the good solution to your low budget.

As for the 3 batt AAA, its known as the 10440 lith-ion batt from Ultra fire. I have like 5 sets of 2, meaning 10 10440 3.7 lith-ion batt here, but only 1 charger that im using, and cant sell. If you like, DealExtreme has them for sale. You should get the Protected kind, or you can buy them with the charge as a pack. But browse around and you will see ;) good luck.

Tommy

Im proberly gonna buy one red and one blue-ray and have blue ray at 110 mw and red at 210mw or somthing because I don't want them to die like almost all of mine do lol.

This bluray is powerfull! It cuts through black tape in seconds. I havnt tried anything else though.

The unfocused beam will burn your skin from several inches away. It seems way more powerfull than my diy red I made a while back.

Just though I would share that for anyone wondering exactly how powerfull the bluray modules are.

I believe mine was set at 110mW.

Does anyone know a place online I can buy goggles? The laser light is pretty intense to stare at....hard to focus as well.

Bluray,
My laser seems to have something around the dot on each side of the mean. The only way to describe it is that it looks like the iris of an eye, with the mean dot being the pupil. Its not all the way around the dot, just on each side like a crescent one opposite of the other. Is this normal? The further away the dot the biger the "iris" becomes. Up close its a bit more noticable.

Maybe its one of those things you can't avoid with a home made laser. No big deal. Just wondering.

Let me know what you guys think of my first bluray lol. I think its a clever idea and yes it is a working trigger :) You can also see my home made heatsink in there. I put the prange on there for legal reasons, that and I dont really want to get shot by a cop.

I have to run out and pick up 2 more pairs later today so I'll post the part number, etc when I get back. The local supplier I use actually has a website too (damned if I can remember the URL at the moment but will remember it I'm sure as soon as I see it on the reciept :o) so it's possible they could be ordered from them...

One noteworthy point is the metal they are made of - it's not true "hardened steel" but my buddy who turns them down for me says they're a real beeeyatch to work with because its' a really hard steel.

More later...

Oops - almost forgot to compliment the build with the airsoft gun - nicely done, man! You've inspired me now - check out the following site for some kick-ass pistol "hosts" (all full metal, full size, full action replicas of the Glock 17, M1911 Colt, etc) : http://www.tacticalgeardepot.com/index.php?cPath=70_78

Just a thought ... MAN the 2-tone stainless/black Glock 17 would mahe an insane host for a monster burner, plenty of room in the magazine for batteries, driver, etc

Bump for a good deal  8-)
Edit: i didnt mean i wanted a good deal. I was just saying it was one.  ;) Although who doesn't want one? :P

BrewCityChick, thanks. Well im just hoping they might have a size thats right for my application i need to use.

DMNEBOY nice build, Stickers nicley put on also ;) That build is good, because you can put the 9V batt in the handle area :) The Iris your talking about, i think some lasers particularly with the BR, that its not fully round, but more of a oval shape. Is that what your refering too? If not, might just be somthing on the lense.

Day, good deal? what is a Good Deal? it was $45 and now its $40.

Everyone else who's ordered, i just got the driver parts today, and i will try to get all of them made and sent out.

Also im not offering the module with a FlexDrive anymore, Purely because it takes too long from the USA to Here and then to where ever it needs to go. Also because its a pain putting it together inside the axiz module, Its not really design for it, so It doesnt give much room to install it without having to glue the module in place. So If the diodes dies later down the track, Its going to be hard to undo the glue from the driver then the diode.
