Here in South Carolina they are very popular and can be found almost any weekend from roadside vendors all over the place. Here they are always boiled in the shell and I dont know anyone that eats the shells. There are several varieties though and not everone likes all varieties. New crop, green, jumbos, etc.... I love them but after about a 1 pound bag I've had my fill for a few weeks.
