E-bay Green Module - Not Bad!

so, is it safe to run the 3v version with an 18650 3.7v rechargable and heatsink or should i not try this?

People have done so but I will tell you not to, if you can't afford to break it. As you can see from the review they put out great power from the recomended 3v. You could also put a resistor between the battery and module to drop the voltage down from the 18650 battery to about 3.6v or lower as this would be safer and could possibly slightly increase the power output. Either way you hook it up it should be properly heatsinked to get longer life and be able to use it for longer burst. Please make sure you properly monitor the tempurature when leaving it on for longer periods of time if it gets to hot shut it down to avoid premature failure.

nvm, i just found out the those are the same thing and they are 3.6v fully charged. im just going to use 3v nonrechargables cause i found a cheap site to get them. do you still do 75$shipped in the U.S. for the 3v 200mW module?
 
A recharble 3v would be the correct voltage for this module but i would do a voltage test to make sure its 3v.
The 3.6v i would also test its output with a voltmeeter to make sure it puts out 3.6v.
Again i dont recomend overpowering the module as it has caused premature failure in the past, im also not responsible for missuse of my module.
What are you going to be mounting it in?
If possible i would recomend your standard AAA, AA, C, Or D batteries the bigger the longer there going to last and possibly a more stable output power.
If you want to use the 18650 batteries get my other module that uses the 4.2v as it would be safer than overpowering the 3v module and possibly causing premature failure.
 
Greenmechanic, I like your beam shot of the laser with the fog in the room. Being that i have no fog juice for my fog machine and it has not been used in years i dont have a good way to take a picture like that.
If you dont mind i would like to use that picture for my e-bay listing, do you mind if i do?

jayrob: the specs on his ebay listing says 650ma. the mfg says 650ma for this new style 150mw module. the listing for your style says 280ma!! thats like 20mw!!!
but they put 280ma on all their modules. whether power level is big or small. 450ma would be around 100mw approx. i would like to see around 700 - 750ma for 200mw..

for all: what about tec cooling the module if one was installed outside a host like a Lumina Laser Effects setup??

As for the ma draw I have no way to test that but I wil have a LPM soon. Do you want the 3v module? I seem to be getting better review I would recomend this for you.

I again got another problem with the output from the 4.2v module I think I'm going to run a sale on them here soon and just sell what I have it will be around 5-8 modules and I will probably sell them shiped for around $60 they will also come with the output test when I get my LPM.

This will not apply to most of you LPF members but starting now I'm going to require a minimum post of atleast 25 for members to get the forum discount on my lasers as anyone can just join the forums and take advantage of the sale. I hope you can all see this as fair and understand, if anyone disagres please let me know.

I will also have some 100mw blue/violete modules in very soon they should put out over 100mw probably around 110to120mw and should have great burning power they will probably be around $75 as well. If anyone is interested in them let me know.
 
Hmmm... I don't know that much about DPSS laser builds, but it's strange how yours is only drawing 488mA's and mine is more like 750mA's??

Yea, I need to get this 4.2V module properly metered... because my old 30mw module pulled 330mA and this "200mw" one is pulling 488mA.

That is indeed strange. Perhaps posting detailed picts of the driver will reveal differences in the circuit design? That would be helpful. I actually think that Jayrob's current draw sounds more ideal and typical.

I'd love to post pics, but it's pressure fitted in a host, and I don't think i can get it out.

Any ideas on how i can get this module properly tested?
 
IMPORTANT INFO ON 4.2V MODULE:

Here is a driver schematic of the very common, SD-10050 4.2v board. note that Q3, the driver regulator, D882, is not heatsinked at all!

R4 is on top of Q3, more heat!. common problem with this board, Q3 Fails due to heat! If you can deal with this problem, ie: sinking heat from Q3, this would be better for long life.

You can cool the module all day long but Q3 will still overheat.

i believe if you own one of these 4.2v modules, you must be aware of this.

also note R4 is .22ohm in this configuration (not .33 per schematic).

Again i apologies about these problems with the 4.2v modules, i just ordered a couple to check them out and 2 out of the 5 i ordered we up to spec :/ Im going to discontiue selling them and send them back to the factory to be refunded.
If anyone else got one and was not happy with it please send it back and i will send you the 3v module.
When my LPM comes in soon i wont have to worry about problems like this as i will be able to properly test the output power of each module before packing and include the results :)

Uhm, sorry ..... do you have a decent pic of the front and back of the module that cause you problems ? (the 4V with the resistor, i mean) ..... i just had an idea, but need to see a decent pic of both the sides of the driver PCB, for see if it can work .....
