:cool::eek:9mm DeathRay:cool::eek:

I had always wanted a BigBoy 9mm build since I seen my first one here on LPF:wave: I wanted to be just a little different in my take of the build and I think I've done it;)

9mm diode from & copper module DTR HERE
BigBoy host from HERE
Xboost drivers... well they are the bomb, but I'm not giving my source out;)
G-1 lens for testing and 3 element 445nm for a daily driver (for now)!?!?!?:wave:

I wanted to improve the heatsink design to meet up with the 11 degree angle in the host so I swedged the sink. I also wanted as much material in the sink for the 9mm to be happy hence the over-hang, here is my design.:wave:

On the lathe:

I took the lip on the pill off so I could flat mount the drivers:D

Mounting the 2x XBoost drivers:evil:

I have them set to 1.1A... very delicate touch needed to achieve both drivers on their proper hash mark.:whistle:

Plenty of room there:wave:

The rest was way easy:D
Clear heat shrink over pins with a bigger black wrap over the clear.

So the unit is a real dragon slayer:na: it maxed out my meter in only seconds.
It seems to get fairly warm compaired to some of my other units @ those powers... I can only say that it's because the sink is touching the host in all dimensions, of course, the drivers are also well sinked.:evil::evil::evil:

The focus ring was from Mrcrouse. Thanks for those:thanks:

Final pics::D

Having a hard time putting this one down... How did those burns holes get there she asked:o

I'm looking out for some stickers in the mail and I'll re-up some of those pics later.
Thanks for looking and feel free to ask any and all questions:beer::drool:

Curious as to why you would double boost instead of buck? Otherwise, nice clean build.

I wanted to have a unique build in this particular host. I though of spreading the work load out so not one driver was getting punished so hard muHaaaa!!!:eg:

The Big Boy goes even bigger. That is a nice upgrade !

Thanks man... I really dig the BigBoy it has it all, great host and for the money.
I just wish they had a chrome one or one with a steel or aluminum clicky.

Just look at those muscles on the bigboy, great drivers :na:
+1 for the awesome work :gj: man

I'm a noob at the lathe still, how do you clamp that in there without leave a mark yet still making it hold enough to lathe it?

There's 3 small lines there you just can't see them unless you look real close.

Great Job love the improvements. I bet it transfers the heat to the host great now. I have also been waiting for some of them poted x-drives to come out Your a lucky guy!

Your right, The fins get plenty warm right where the drivers are I think between the sAik and the BigBoy I'm settled, of course jay is the king of the mags, but who knows after a couple more BigBoys under my belt I could be the prince of the BigBoyz... LOL!?!?!?:undecided:

Ok, so my 9mm diode seems to be dropping in power, at first I though I was having problems with the replicating my test. I might have used a different lens to test tonight or so I though , but at last I believe the diode is off about 150mW and dropping:(

I will keep a close eye on it, but I'm experiencing a ever-slight flicker in the center lines... it clears up after 3 seconds or less. I've read on diode phasing or TEM on diodes and those stories never end well. Anybody think turning down the powa will help or ride it out to see what happens?!?!?!?!

Check your batteries. That is what usually lowers my output on the saik build. Also I am finding that ambient temperature makes a large difference in output. 300mw or so. You are running at 2.2A you should have no problems...

Well your more right than you know. There is still that strange phasing for a second or 2 ,but what was happening was the unit was saturated. I let it cool down completely and got those mW back topped out my lpm in seconds. The batteries were fresh so updated.

I did some reads with a tec heatsink that I just got from flaminpyro and have done some testing at different temperatures. I need to do some charting but it is varying by some300mw between 8C ambient start temp to 23C ambient start temp. That's about 10% loss. I noticed this when I turned the heat on for winter and found my 2.9W saik was now sitting at 2.7W but the sink was sitting at 23C rather than about 18C I put the laser in a cooler porch area for a half hr and it was back up to 2.9W.

beast! really loving that heatsink!

Im lining up a big boy host for my 1W 660nm T0-3 diode, what is the max dimensions for the heatsink?

Gota make sure she will fit in before i buy!
