DTR's Laser Shop - Laser Diodes & More

Re: DTR's Laser Shop - 1.5W-2W A140 diodes $43 shipped US

Waiting to hear on this as I need to purchase 2 of these. I just want to be sure that I get everything that I need in one shot...

Sorry about that. Not sure how I missed your question. Yes if you already have drivers you would just put the module in your heatsink and connect it to your driver and you are good to go.

Ok so the part that I mentioned has the diode and a 405-g-2 lens in it with the focus adapter etc.... right?

Sure does.;)

Did you already have a host picked out?

No, can you help with that? I was wanting to use a pair of 16340 cells if possible...

Well there are lots of hosts out there. Just about any host that fits an 18650 will work with 16340's but I do prefer the 18350's as they will fit in the same 18650 hosts as well but have a little larger capacity. You can check my tutorials for host ideas or look at some of the others that offer host kits. There really are many choices. Have you seen any that you like?

Thanks for the links... I think I found something that I like... Also I am going to push these diodes to 1.8a. I know that this is nearing the limit of the diodes but I just wanted to be sure that these can take it. (at least for a little while)? With the 405-g-2 lens with this diode being pushed to 1.8a I should get around 2w of power right?

1.8A is the max I suggest to run them on an enthusiast level. 1.5A will yield better life expectancy. On the other hand if you have the ability to efficiency test the diode you can better determine an ideal current for a good power/life expectancy ratio. The more efficient the more confident you can be about running it @ higher currents.

1.8A with a G-2 will yield between 1.8W-2.3W depending on the diode's efficiency.;)

I do not have the ability to really test the efficiency of the diodes... I do however have the jib drives already set to 1.8a... I am about to put in the order.

Thanks

Sounds good. I will get it out to you first thing on Monday.

Re: DTR's Laser Shop - 1.5W-2W A140 diodes $43 shipped US

Hello DTR,

Just a quick ?. The first 405-G-2 that I ordered through your eBay store came with a black-colored threaded lens holder assembly; the second 405-G-2 I just received today from your Google store came with a brass colored lens holder.

Now obviously the lenses inside are the same, but the black holder has a ring (and smaller aperture) on the diode side as well...so this one sits farther from the diode and will need to be screwed in farther than the brass one?

Flaminpyro is making me a heat sink and I'll probably get this working late next week. But lenses are cool so I figured I'd post this message now lol.

Re: DTR's Laser Shop - 1.5W-2W A140 diodes $43 shipped US

Yes I currently use two different custom retainers. Both rear entries are wide enough to get the entire beam in them. The newer brass ones are really nice but I don't know if I will be able to continue to carry them. They are custom made from a member of PL. This is my first run batch and they were really expensive so unless I can work out a better deal I may have to stick with the black ones. The custom black ones worked just as well but the retaining ring has to be trimmed down so the lens can get close enough to the diode. Originally I used blank Aixiz retainers but they were a PITA to get perfectly centered so I switched up to the black ones I found from a Chinese supplier.

In both the black cell and the brass cell the lens elements are the exact same distance from the diode. It is just a difference of where they are held in the cell. The new ones they are right up against the back with the retaining ring coming down from the top side. The black ones the lens sits back a mm more so it appears that you have to screw it in a little further.

Ok thanks! I have two styles to try now. The variance in screw-in distance is actually nice in this respect for my lab style; I was hoping to use an o-ring as a retainer. From what I've read, teflon tape doesn't last and the focal length is too short for a spring on these lenses.

As always, I received them very quickly.

Ok, I got my diodes today. They look great so far. One thing I am unsure of as I am a complete newb at building these is what is the wiring diagram for these? I can assume that the black and red are + and - but what is the white wire for?

The white wire is case or chassis ground, much like the green wire on most appliances. If you don't have a ground on your laser pointer, most people would probably hook up the ground to negative.

Yep you may not need to use the case pin for path to ground but I put it there in case you do.;)
